The release of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S systems has reportedly been one of the largest for the company, at least according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who shared in a tweet that the latest generation marks the largest launch in Xbox history. “In 24 hrs more new consoles sold, in more countries, than ever before,” Spencer writes. “We’re working with retail to resupply as quickly as possible. You continue to show us the connective power of play is more important than ever.”
Why aren’t we getting exact numbers? According to an interview with Spencer from The Guardian, it’s because he wants those working for Xbox to focus on player numbers instead of console unit sale numbers. “I don’t want my team’s focus on [console sales]. The primary outcome of all the work that we do is how many players we see, and how often they play. That is what drives Xbox,” he says.
The Xbox Series X launch has also been a source of some pretty brilliant internet humor related to viral footage of smoking Series X systems, which appear to be staged using vape smoke. We’ll share our favorites below after the break, but one should heed the advice from Xbox’s official Twitter, which warned against blowing vape smoke into the system with an audible sigh.
