It’s yet another look at the hyper-granular advancement of space-based building sandbox Starbase, which has put out another couple weeks’ worth of progress notes. Let’s get all caught up, shall we?
Week 2 of 2021 includes the first version of “easy build mode” for ships being added to testing, which hopefully should make putting together spacecraft a bit less daunting. On the subject of spaceship building, there are plans to introduce center of mass and center of thrust indicators in the Spaceship Builder, while 55 new player-made ships have been added to the economy. The week’s notes also point out that unarmed melee combat has been tested and improved upon, so now your robotic avatar can throw metal hands.
Updates made in Week 3 include some changes to non-mineable asteroids, making them rarer and less dense. Station and Ship Manager UI designs have also been worked on, and some new city sections are being worked on as well.
As a refresher, Starbase was announced back in 2019 by Finnish dev studio Frozenbyte as a “massively multiplayer online game with gameplay focused on building and designing spaceships and stations, exploration, resource gathering, crafting, trading, and combat.” It had previously aspired to enter early access later that year, but instead had pushed it back twice; the game now hopes to kick off early access sometime at the beginning of this year.
