The Daily Grind: What’s the most expensive MMO to play at the start of 2022?

I’m going to introduce today’s Daily Grind by saying upfront I do not know what the answer to this question is.

That’s because there are so many ways to count how much stuff costs to begin with. I try to avoid most blatant pay-to-win, triple-dipping, and lockboxes, so games with an excessive amount of those are where I’d put my focus. And yet I know of MMOs with none of those things where people still manage to way overspend thanks to the allure of cosmetics, subs, and currency bundles. I got a bit sucked into Albion Online this past year and somehow wound up paying two subs for a grand total of two toons, which I’ll be the first to admit is exorbitant.

For the sake of this not just becoming another dunking-on-you-know-who thread, let’s ignore obviously problematic unfinished “games” that people have sunk thousands of dollars into and focus on live, launched MMORPGs. What’s the most expensive MMO to play at the start of 2022?
