If you’re not among those living inside the official Discord for Helldivers 2 (and nobody would blame you for not doing so since it’s kind of a morass), you might have missed the time when Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt hopped in to chat with players, which ended up turning into a sort of brief Q&A session.
The visit by Pilestedt was ostensibly about whether or not players felt like the launch of the game’s new premium battle pass should be delayed in light of the recent PSN kerfuffle and in the interest of optics, but afterwards he started to answer a few of the questions posed by players.
- About balancing: Pilestedt agrees that a “bottom up” approach to balance is probably the right answer and has promised to talk to the team about the matter. He otherwise says that the team tries to balance for varied loadouts but concedes it doesn’t always succeed in doing so, and he even directly addresses a grumpy player by agreeing the devs can do better.
- On the gameplay front, Pilestedt says that raising limits for medals and samples would imbalance rewards. He wants to add helmet stats, gear dyeing, and additional strategems, and agrees some planned visual features for the PS5 version like VRR or a quality mode present are needed, but he explains that the team had to push those plans down the priority ladder.
- Finally, Pilestedt answers a question about the game being removed from over 100 territories on Steam, saying, “I’m speaking to our partners at PlayStation and Valve and pushing for it to be undone. Getting the account linking took a Herculean effort – but I won’t rest in my desire to have it available everywhere.”
The discussion closes with Pilestedt agreeing that perhaps it’s high time for a full AMA; plans to arrange that will be discussed with the team.
