Given all of the releases that came out last year, you would be forgiven for letting the co-op critter hunting RPG Atlas Fallen slip through the mental cracks. After all, the game was, by all critical and gamer accounts, something of a middling title. However, developer Deck13 and publisher Focus Entertainment has not completely forgotten it, and after about a year removed from its original launch it’s received a game-changing – and free – revamp.
The Reign of Sand update introduced a new area known as Source with new challenges and powerful new Wraith abilities, all-new monsters to fight, a new game plus option that also features a challenging new Nyaal’s Nightmare difficulty, 25 new perks and abilities, all-new open world challenges, and updates to the game’s tutorial and voice acting. These additions run alongside overall updates like balancing for every difficulty mode in the game, more variety in enemy encounters, improved camera features and visuals, additional keys for keyboard and mouse players, and a host of bug fixes.
The revamp is so impactful that Deck13 is going so far as to recommend to veteran players that they start completely from scratch. And judging by player reaction to this update on YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, and Steam, this update looks to have done a lot to revitalize the game. Who says an old dog can’t learn newer and better tricks?
