Last week, we covered some unfortunate news for co-op sandbox Nightingale when we learned that its studio, Tencent-backed Inflexion, had abruptly closed down its UK subsidiary, axing multiple developers. At the time, Inflexion CEO Aaryn Flynn characterized the layoffs as “working through changes to the overall shape and size of [the] studio.”
Inflexion announced on Linkedin today that it’s undergoing a “restructure” that is resulting in even more layoffs.
“The video game industry is undergoing a period of significant transition, and Inflexion and Nightingale have felt the impact of these broader trends. After exploring numerous options, we made the difficult decision to restructure our studio to ensure our long-term sustainability. Sadly this means saying goodbye to a number of incredibly talented and dedicated team members. […] No words can ease the hardship they face, but we are committed to providing as much support as possible during this transition. […] We are doing everything we can to help them navigate this period and find new opportunities.”
GamesIndustry.biz reports an unnamed Inflexion source suggested as many as 22 people were let go today.
In Discord, Inflexion’s Scarbs told players that “the game will continue its Early Access journey” and that “Aaryn [Flynn] will be sharing further updates on that soon once everyone has had time to process.”
“Early Access development will continue,” Scarbs reiterated. Last week, Flynn also said that the studio had “every intention of continuing to improve and grow Nightingale.”
Obviously our sympathies once again go out to the affected devs.
