While there likely is nothing new under the sun in terms of multiplayer gaming anymore, sometimes existing sub-genres or game styles blend in such a way that they end up mutating into something pretty much brand-new. That’s something one could argue is the case regarding Mother Machine, an upcoming side-scrolling co-op platformer that lets players control little gremlins to explore caverns as best as they can.

“Climb, jump, and explore alien caves full of emergent surprises in this 1-4 player co-op action-RPG platformer. Customize your cute chaos gremlin with a never-ending appetite for adventure & mayhem! Unlock a vast range of mutations to choose your preferred playstyle and role in a group.”

The gameplay loop sees teams of players delving procedurally generated caves with a variety of threats and obstacles that must be overcome, either through climbing, using flora and fauna, or just straight up eating them. Completed runs award mutations that grant abilities like chameleon-like stealth, projectile vomit, or fart jumping (yep), and characters can be further customized with new patterns, colors, and ears.

The game recently held a mid-December playtest, while its release is slated for sometime in March according to its Steam page. If any combination of chaos gremlins, platforming, and co-op appeals to you, it might be something to add to the wishlist.
