WRUP: Excerpt from my NaNoWriMo novel ‘Claude Mayonnaise, Serial Laundry Defiler’ edition

You were hoping for a picture of Tgek'dmal, I know.

The city was a dark place, dark like the attitude I put forth in hopes of impressing people. The name’s Claude Mayonnaise, because my parents were bad at naming things and also didn’t really want kids in the first place. Usually I go by Steve. “Hey, Claude, what’s going on?” people would ask, and I’d say, “Call me Steve, my birth name is stupid.” Then I’d get drunk.

It was late on a Friturday, the new day the city had come up with during which it was just night time all the time and full of gangsters. I was on my way to work, you see. I work as a detective, but my office says “Serial Laundry Defiler.” Probably because I defiled the sign-painter’s laundry four or five times, but in my defense, his laundry was stupid. What could I do?

Suddenly, a shot rang out. I’d figure out where it came from, but first it was time to drink bourbon, and also read What Are You Playing on Massively Overpowered. The nicest-looking people with the most intelligent ideas posted there. I hoped some of them would show up.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Probably some Pokémon Go as usual. Miitomo updated so I’ll probably check some of that out (don’t judge me). I might also see Arrival if time permits because oh my God, a linguist in a sci-fi movie that’s doing well with critics!? Santa came early this year for me!

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I doubt I’ll be playing anything this weekend as I have plans to do some real-world escapism for a change. But maybe that’ll mean I pull out some old favorites on the phone/tablet. We’ll see!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): You know, I have my usual stuff to do in Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, but I’ve actually been really digging on another playthrough of Final Fantasy VI recently. It’s an old favorite, but after this week, I need that. I’ll also be cranking away at NaNoWriMo, in all seriousness; passed the halfway-to-target mark as of this writing, so time to steamroll along!

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): ‘Tis the last weekend before RIFT’s expansion, so I might be giving some other games love in anticipation of future time spent away. I made a goal to finish up the City of the Sun God in The Secret World this month, so that is probably going to get a fair bit of my attention. I also might give Twin Saga a whirl just because.

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): I will be trying a different version of Dr. Strange than Marvel Heroes — I am going to see the movie! Other than that, I will be popping into ARK and spending some more time in Middle-earth in LOTRO. Maybe I will squeeze a couple rounds of HEX in, but I might mostly be hanging outdoors and watching movies.

Pierre, patron: Help me MOP readers, you’re my only hope!  There are so many good games to play, I don’t know what to do or where to start, and I’m not even counting any MMO among them. I even had to put Destiny on the back burner to dedicate my time to other games. OK, I agree, my main mistake was buying Skyrim Special Edition on my PS4; I’m back in this endless game and I will spend God knows how many hours in it, but it’s so good. When will I find time for Dishonored 2? This game appears to be a real gem (and from a team of really talented and French devs). And what about my recent backlog (I refuse to look at the beast that has become my older backlog): Dragon Quest Builders, Sunless Sea Zubmariner, Quantum Break, Mafia III… I’m overwhelmed. Or rather, I’m grateful to all these devs offering we gamers so many enjoyable experiences, so many hours of pleasure and fun. Bugs, will cry the negative Nancies, but no bug has ever deprived me of enjoying any game, except for Trion’s (yes, I’m one of their detractors). Enjoy your gaming weekend, MOP readers; mine will be a treat.
