The Daily Grind: Have you bought real-world memorabilia for an MMO?
I don't think it's going to surprise anyone that I'm a pretty big fan of Final Fantasy XIV. Despite that fact, it may surprise readers to know that my home is not only not covered in various FFXIV merchandise, but I don't actually own much of what does exist in the first place. I just don't feel the need...
Make My MMO: May 9, 2015
This week in MMO crowdfunding news, we learned everything we ever wanted to know about Star Citizen's first person shooter module, plus a bit more. In addition to some deep dives into character and art design, we got a good look at SATA Ball, which is simultaneously an in-fiction sport and an attempt at FPS mechanics that haven't really been...
Xsyon patch adds architecture parts, fixes bugs
Xsyon's architecture mechanics got some love in yesterday's patch. New parts were added, including the 16x16 truss, 16 meter beams, and 8.8 and 16.8 meter beams. Notorious Games has "heavily optimized" the game's architecture support checking function, which it calls "10 times faster now" and which should reduce pauses while placing parts.
The devs also fixed a number of bugs in...
Star Citizen reveals Star Marine’s SATA Ball and a whole lot more
Cloud Imperium has dropped a huge info bomb regarding Star Marine, which is what the firm is calling Star Citizen's first person shooter functionality. Like Arena Commander before it, Star Marine will be releasing in an alpha state and will undergo ongoing development as it's being tested by the game's backer community.
Chris Roberts says that even though Star Marine is...
APB weathers (another) GTA V launch
I feel kinda bad for APB Reloaded given that it's had to weather not one but two launches of GTA V, first on consoles in 2013 and more recently last month as Rockstar brought the number one selling video game of all time to the PC.
Perhaps I shouldn't feel bad, though, since GamersFirst's latest blog post claims that a "slew of...
LOTRO Legendarium: The return of the dungeon
While I've been playing Lord of the Rings Online as one of my main MMOs for almost a decade now, it's primarily been for the single-player experience through the majestic and detailed world. I suspect that a disproportionally large percentage of the playerbase approaches the game in a similar fashion compared to other fantasy MMOs.
There's something about LOTRO's group...
The Stream Team: Playing a good guy in GTA Online
You don't have to be a bad guy when playing GTA Online. No, MassivelyOP's MJ is definitely one of the good guys, stopping the evil drug traffickers that plague the city of Los Santos. Truly, she's is just doing her civic duty to help keep the streets safe! Instead of stealing, she just creatively borrows cars for an indefinite...
Star Citizen releases retro-themed browser arcade game
Forget Arena Commander -- the new hotness in the Star Citizen universe is Hyper Vanguard Force IV. And you can play it right now without a beta key.
So what is this? Hyper Vanguard Force IV is a Star Citizen-themed retro shoot-em-up that can be played in your browser. Its pixel art was based on Star Citizen's concept art and...
WRUP: Chroma Squad is a thing of joy edition
If you had told me when I was 17 that I wanted to play a pixelated turn-based strategy game in which I got to manage my own team of sentai characters, I would have responded with an eye-roll and a loud "duh." Because of course I did. I still want that now! Only now I can actually play that,...
The Daily Grind: When do you know it’s time to evacuate from your game?
This right here is your friendly neighborhood evacuation droid. If you will but calm down and follow his directions, he will lead you away from disillusionment and toward a brighter future. Please mind the flame wars and "I Quit" posts on your way out.
Sooner or later, the time comes for us to leave an MMO. Maybe it's the studio...
