Star Citizen pushes Alpha 2.2 to live

It’s time to strap yourself in and put on your big captain boots, for Star Citizen’s Alpha 2.2 is here, and it’s bringing a new dimension to the game’s dangerous universe.

The core of the update is the new monitoring and reputation system, which allows pilots to play as either virtuous defenders of the peace or nefarious scoundrels. In this system, the bad guys can get away with their black deeds as long as they’re careful and take steps to keep out of sight when their wanted meter is high enough.

Of course, if you want to get into the nitty-gritty of the update, you can pour through the entirety of the patch notes. Will you get starry eyes once you’re done, citizen? If not, then you can watch the following episode of Around the Verse, prepared especially for you.

Considering that they had to build the company as well I wonder if it might be considered a record time if they can do it in 5 years.
And I agree it certainly is impressive.

GoJammit Karl_Hungus 3 years and  4 motnhs so far.  AAA require a good 5 years with full organization, tools and team.  CIG started from scratche end of 2012.    Pretty impressive indeed.

Kataq Psionicinversion Armsman Cotic_OP what an idiotic thing to say. Its like Squadron 42 1, 2, 3. full blown single player games all full mo capped. there all going to be around 20 hours each which is alot.  SQ42 should released this year, then behind enemy lines maybe 2018 then 3rd installment 2019-2020.  So its not locking ANYTHING behind a paywall.

Regarding SC you can buy vanity items and credits on the store when the game is released and thats it to try help fund the game. Thats the business model he wants to use atm but could change in the future if its not covering the costs of development. There are very very few games that are subscription based now and with SC you cant really lock anything out with expansions. Like ED say you havnt got horizons, its no problem it will just stay the same as it is now it will just lock you out of landing on the planets. But unless they start sectioning off systems that you cant access with paying for an “expansion” or something its not going work. They cant lock ships out because if you personally cant access them you will still be able to steal them and they cant make them invisible to you otherwise you wouldnt know whats shooting at you. So paid expansions wont work in Star Citizen at all.

Kataq Armsman Cotic_OP Yeah content added to Star Citizen is completely free and theyve got lots of stuff planned for years down the line after release.  Youll have to buy addtional SQ42 episodes but thats it

Armsman Cotic_OP So all content added after release over the following years will be for free? Or is the game no longer being added to after release, making it dead by general online game standards?

9thLEGION Kataq So what happens once SC releases? Is all content added to the game after release going to be for free? That would be quite impressive if CIG are prepared to work for free for the next 5 years or so.
Or is release going to signal the end of development, making SC a dead game the moment it hits the shelves?
No respectable online game stops development after release, and no sane company works for free.

No I haven’t seen that video, in fact I don’t even think about that game.
But I don’t doubt its bad, that game will never amount to anything.

No that dubious honor is held by Duke Nukem Forever.
