Ghost in the Shell Online will close on December 6 in North America

So, remember how Ghost in the Shell Online announced it was shuttering in Japan without announcing that it was also shuttering in North America? Turns out the latter is happening as well. The team behind the game announced today that all services will be shutting down on December 6th for North America, South America, Europe, and Oceania. All cash shop services have been suspended, although the game will continue to operate normally until the shutdown.

The official word is that it was a difficult decision to make, but the ultimate conclusion was that further development time wouldn’t make the title into a large enough success to justify ongoing costs. Our condolences to the players and developers affected by this closure; we hope you get some last good matches in before the game goes entirely offline.

This entire IP just needs to go away.

oh no what a great loss it ll be it was such a unique and inspiring game that so closely faithful to the lore and wasn’t in any way a mediocre reskinned call of duty with archaic design elements what shall I ever do

Without the GITS IP it would be an even more generic and lackluster FPS.

Oh look, Nexon ruins another game.

It was fun for 10 hours or so. Sad for the fans.

Sad, but unsurprising. I get a better GitS experience, complete with the original English voice cast, from that old PS2 game (still need to actually do a full playthrough at some point), and can get a better FPS experience out of dozens of other titles.

Bummer that it never turned into anything more than a mostly generic shooter with a GitS skin. The IP deserves better than a lobby shooter.

This isn’t surprising. We went years without any significant updates until 2.0 and that update pretty much killed the remaining playerbase. It was never as good as Neotokyo so I won’t miss it much, but I would like to see another game attempted with the GitS.

Didn’t this just launch? I mean, I know it wasn’t doing so well, and the steam views were pretty bad. It’s a real shame the IP is really cool.

I think it only launched recently in NA, but apparently it was around in Japan for a while.

It launched a few years ago.
