New datamining points to potential World of Warcraft subraces for the next expansion

First of all, a disclaimer for those who need it: Using datamining to figure out what’s going to be in the game in the future can be a mug’s game anyhow, and doubly so in World of Warcraft. Datamining can point the way to future content, but it can also point to Azshara Crater. Still, the prospect of four new sub-races in the game’s files may well mean that players can try these races out… or it may mean that Wowhead’s datamining just found a new way the game is organizing data.

Still, the possibility of having four new subraces is enticing, isn’t it? The four options found are Nightborne and Highmountain Tauren for the Horde, and Void Elves and Lightforged Draenei for the Alliance. They all make a certain amount of sense, but their inclusion is far from certain; these might be racial files stored differently or even just an abortive effort. We’ll know more once BlizzCon rolls around and we find out about that next expansion.

None I’d jump for, but interested in Lightforged Draenei. My top 4 races to play are (in no order): Human, Draenei, Undead, Blood Elf.

Aww I wanted high elves for the Alliance.

High elves are bland and boring

If we get Void Elves for Alliance or Nightborne………no matter which one………please dont give them the “Football Shoulder Pads” scale for shoulder armor.

This would actually be really cool if every race had subrace that differs in looks, background and racial abilities. With orcs it can be pureborn orcs, fel orcs or draenor orcs. Trolls have shitton of tribes. The biggest problem would be to make variaty among humans.

The problem is, Activision does nothing with them. No matter how many races there are, they play the same and it’s all down to blue vs red. Activision’s current gameplay design philosophy is literally the opposite of what they did in War3.

Personally, those have never been incentives for me to stay away from any given game. /shrug

It’s interesting but I think anyone who explored the real old Ironforge knows better then to put to much stock in this.

They could also be new NPC races.

Every race in that list except for void elf is already a npc race in the game

The subraces sound interesting . Every now and then I get a hankering to go back to WoW but then I just do the free early game again end up two or three shotting mobs and remember it’s far too easy now and is really only a shadow of its former self .

Who knows maybe one day their will be the pristine servers they talked about a few years ago . I would return in a heartbeat if they offered a more challenging form of gameplay on such servers .

Its not more challenging. It wouldn’t be “vanilla”. It would be the current game minus LFD. It would be pointless imo to even release them. Pristine servers would still have the loot pinatas for doing nothing. You would still be able to access catch up mechanics, skipping whole tiers of content. No thank you.

It certainly wouldn’t be for everyone, but there is a good amount of people who do not currently subscribe who would subscribe if there was even just one pre-cata server. No good reason to deny those people the opportunity to return to a game they purchased in the past and doesn’t exist anymore due to the sheer number of overhauls to the systems in the game.

Well your best bet is to jump from priv server to priv server as they get shut down or until wow decides to make one. Blizzard is all about less work as their armor sets have shown this in spade simply putting up a whole new slew of servers pre cata is prob too much work for them so don’t hold your breath
