World of Warcraft dev spills the secrets of Patch 6.1

We can’t blame World of Warcraft fans for being in an excitement tizzy (that’s a thing, right?) over the upcoming Patch 6.1, as it looks to add a slew of improvements to the game. While we can’t shorten the wait for you, we can point you to the following informative video interview with Blizzard Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas.

Hazzikostas fields questions on 6.1 for 25 minutes, including the Blood Elf visual upgrade, the heirloom UI, summonable raid bosses, Twitter integration, customizable music for strongholds, and efforts being made to encourage players to visit friends’ strongholds. He also hinted that the team is already hard at work on stories and other features for Patch 6.2.

If you’ve got a half-hour, give the interview a watch after the break!

Skyewauker Greaterdivinity Right, because the only thing in RPGs are raids. There is absolutly nothing else. Let’s forget that they release 3 dungeons every major patch. How many dungeons did we get in MoP patches? Oh yeah right, 0.

And no, Coil was not gated, in fact Yoshi-P said that they could release raids with more bosses but it’d take more time, which implies that they were still working on SCOB and FCOB when the first Coil was released.

Bolaum While I disagree with the message personally, that video was pretty hilarious…

In WoW’s case, they’ve gotten away with dumping big technical patches in the past. Like I said, it’s been since TBC since they released one…it’s throwing a lot of people off.

The distinguishing feature of a troll is only post half truths to throw off the person they disagree with. As it has been well documented that the reboot of XIV has been one of the MMO’s biggest success stories next to WoW.

Greaterdivinity MatthewAllart Are you talking about Bahamut’s Coil?  Or maybe the hard mode version of the Primals?  You are talking about FFXIV right?

Greaterdivinity ManastuUtakata There is a reason blizzard gets the coverage.  They are one of the top developers in the world in terms of games.  Numbers don’t lie.  Maybe when these other companies get on their level, they will get the same coverage too.  Kinda hard though when your game is forced to go F2P (looking at you Rift) or your first rendition of a game fails so utterly that it has to be rebooted (FFXIV).

Greaterdivinity Skyewauker I want to preface this by saying I play FF XIV.  I have no issues with the game.

FF XIV doesn’t update any faster than WoW really.  Maybe fractionally faster at best.  What you accuse WoW of, FF XIV has done the same thing. How many bosses are in the Coil of Bahamut?  5-6 ?  Crystal Tower?  13 I think.

For 5-6 bosses, FF FFXIV gated Bahamut’s Coil over damned near a full year.  Thats worse than WoW.  Do you honestly think that raid wasn’t ready to go?  Square Enix is no Bliizzard or any other MMO company when it comes to content release.

Wow has released 2 raids in the span of 3 months.  There is a total of 17 bosses between the 2… with 3 different difficulties (mythic includes unique additional mechanics).  It looks like they have SE beat in this regard.

I could say the same about their dungeons as well.  Do you honestly think they didnt have hard modes ready for the dungeons and the primals?  Gtfo here with that lol.

SallyBowls1 Bannex19 The last showed numbers for Oct-Nov 15, the quarter with an expansion launch. The first numbers released by Blizzard was before they released the expansion in China and South Korea. Early this month they released the full numbers for Oct-Dec, which was after they released WoD in Asia. If Asia players returned for WoD and numbers remained the same, it means that they lost many players in the west.
