APB: Reloaded improving server tech for console launches

Twitch reflexes are all for naught if an MMO’s servers are super-laggy, which is why the APB: Reloaded team is dedicating itself to the task of bringing better tech online in order to improve gameplay performance and prepare for the upcoming console launches

As part of this effort, the team is looking into potential cloud hosting solutions and is improving European servers to match their US counterparts. The team announced that this switch is imminent: “The good news: We are launching the final ‘Gen 2’ servers for testing in the EU later this week!”

When APB does release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the servers will be divided into three US and three EU worlds, one for each platform per region (PC, XBox One, and PS4). The server improvements will allow for even more players to congregate on a single world.

Sanrrostyler Not yet. But “coming soon”. Like already a year lol.

The game has ridiculous cash shop and borderline pay2win weapons. Actually there are few who are definitely pay2win.
It’s shame that the game offers so much customization, but they stick to making new guns, skins for the guns(which is ok), and very few cosmetic stuffs. No clothing slot upgrades or anything like that. But who needs that when you have lots of underage kids willing to pay 50$ for a gun…

You have already changed the engine?

I doubt this will help out on the PC side of things; consoles would require aim assist to be added into the game so I’m assuming they’d need to be on completely different servers running a different version of the game.

FornaForZeTree no, the publisher is spending craploads of money on new servers to accommodate more players because they won the lottery and wanted to donate it all to HP and/or Dell.

I’m so “meh” about this news.
Mainly this is down to the devs saying this probably a year ago or so, about “Improved performance” across the servers.

But a month after that announcement – with upgraded hardware, mind you (It had been longer than I’d realised since I first played APB after it was required), I re-downloaded and booted it up, and it had the same lag-spike problems. Sometimes the lag-spike would arise when driving and cause crazy rubber-banding to occur. More irritating was sometimes it’d be during a really intense fire-fight, someone would rush behind you and use and auto-shotty, and that was basically lag central.

I feel this will just be a means to optimise for the new console releases but will leave the PC in the same state it’s always been. I could be wrong though, since I haven’t played it for some time, but I’d be more than happy to hear that it’s actually up to par now.
Let’s just hope that they manage to sort out the borked matchmaking.

The last time that I played this was during the beta…for the original release. I found the missions to be highly repetitive (like 3 or 4 missions on repeat) and the driving was impossible. Anyone who’s played Reloaded know how the driving compares to other driving games like GTA or Need for Speed?

Estranged  Servers weren’t divided by PVE and PVP. The whole game is built around PVP, however it used to be completely avoidable. But after the last time I tried it, it would appear not. When it first came out it worked like Grand Theft Auto. If you’re a criminal you commit crimes which raise your wanted level. At a certain wanted level, a mission will be given to another player of the opposing side to arrest you. If you evade arrest and continue to commit crimes further increasing your wanted level then you can eventually have an APB put out on you which makes you a target to every officer in the area. This is all granted you are able to commit crimes without being seen by the police. If they see you commit a crime then you automatically become a target. The same works for police. The more arrests they make without being defeated the more they become targets for the criminals. However this notoriety decreases with time, so what I originally did was steal a car, take it to a chop shop, and then wait for my wanted level to decrease before stealing another car preventing the police from coming after me.

The last time I tried APB, i had just created my guy, spawned my car, and drove out of the parking deck spawn area and parked on the side of the road to determine what I was going to do. So while I’m sitting there looking for a good area to commit my first crime, a player playing a cop jumps on the hood of my car and shoots me through the windshield of my car killing me where I see I’ve been arrested without having committed a single crime. This was the first time I’d ever sat foot in the game after it’s relaunch. At the time, I figured they had turned the game into a FFA typical shooter so I logged out and uninstalled the game and never looked back. Fantastic first impression.

hardy83 FornaForZeTree If the game is popular with actual customers,( e.g. WoW, Destiny, Hearthstone, SWTOR, MOBAs) it is of minor interest to [most of[ the readers of this site.

Shuu37 I imagine it would be harder to cheat in the console versions.
