Heavy Gear Assault brings robot battling to a wider world

Mech fighters now have another option for their online gaming pleasure, as a title called Heavy Gear Assault has been making its way through the testing rounds — and the e-sports circuit.

Heavy Gear Assault is an arena PvP game where players pilot giant robots who smash and shoot the circuits out of each other. It will feature MMO-ish elements such as an upgradable robot “gear,” player markets, and even the ability to hop out of your mech and explore as a human avatar. Ultimately, the team said that this may prove to be bigger than just a single arena: “Heavy Gear Assault will release in a series of modules, culminating with the launch of the Heavy Gear persistent universe with episodic single player warfare.”

Currently the game is in its second alpha program. Players who purchase a founder’s pack (which range from $40 to $100) can get into the current test.

At the start. Then an RPG. Then a miniatures game. Then two computer PC games. Then a tabletop board game. Now the board game is in, the RPG is entering into its 20th anniversary edition, and the computer game is being tested.

I could be mis-remembering, but wasn’t ‘Heavy Gear’ a 90’s card game about mech fighting?

goldstariv Sorenthaz  Yeah… I got Alpha 3rd on my modded PS2 and love it.  Even if I don’t fully understand what’s going on unless I read up a guide and stuff, lol.   The only English games though are Original Generation 1 and 2 for the GBA… and then the spinoff Endless Frontier stuff or w/e for the DS.   J and Alpha Gaiden were fan translated though, and A Portable (PSP version) and I think F Final are having fan translations in the works as well.
If I had a PS3 I’d totally get OGs2 x.x  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqjLbA5YINg  I would spam the hell out of this as much as possible when I got it.

I know it’d be almost impossible to get an MMO made of the non-Originals (due to all the many licenses and so on) but even having an SRW MMO that could be made via

Sorenthaz goldstariv Yeah, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk0rmZr57AE

It’s essentially SD Gundam Capsule fighters, except a lot less chibi and super OMG flying DBZ fast..

Oh my an SRW MMO…… The intensity would be intensely intense..

The SRW they made for the PS3 is an amazing game although I cannot understand anything!

NCsucks Sometimes I think developers need to visit older games like Mechwarrior and truly consider how it could exist in a persistent MMO if the core game mechanics were kept in place.

goldstariv Sorenthaz  Oh they did another online Gundam game?  Lol.  I remember they tried doing an MMO which died several years back (though a small group revived it to some extent).  Hopefully it’ll come out in English some day.  I know SD Gundam took forever to get over here.  And that game looks kind of like an advanced version of Capsule Fighter, lol.
If only a Super Robot Wars MMO could be made.  :(

Sorenthaz They have a cool full size online Gundam game over in Japan, but of course we never get the cool ones… They send the litle chibi things here and when it doesn’t do well they start to question imports to the west..

How about giving us some of those COOL ASS MECHA GAMES!! lmao..
