Shroud of the Avatar isn’t even in proper alpha testing yet, but the fantasy title has already been host to its first in-game wedding.
Players Roper and Keira tied the virtual knot in an action-packed proceedings that included intense vow-making, fiery battles, and a knighting ceremony. Lord British and several members of the dev team also made appearances to bestow blessings on the newlyweds.
You can watch the highlights of the ceremony after the jump!

SotA will be an RPers dream. Â RP community is already strong. Â This is pretty cool.
I hope my wedding in RL wont look like that lol
Narayan I have to agree, its pretty…weird. I mean, I’m a mmo geek….but…wow, this takes it to the next level.
Narayan MMOs are social spaces, and this is a social activity – getting married in an MMO is no more unusual or strange than choosing what clothes your avatar wears – virtual worlds are meant to allow self-expression.
Yeah … the idea of in-game marriage always baffled me:
The only instances my character got married was when there were some perks involved or special mechanic / interesting activities after.
I know, I know – I’m such a romantic :P ;)
Stay tuned for the action-packed honeymoon video, which will include intense vow-making, fiery battles, and a knighting ceremony!
“Show me thine swashbuckling prowess, scoundrel!”
“Quiet, sow! I’ll have ye cry like the ravens long before I hilt my weapon into thine flesh!”
“Make me cry, if thou canst! Why, I imagine that weapon will be dulled upon first entry into my scabbard!”
“I’ll show you how long my Valor and Justice can hold its edge, Gargoyle! Before long you’ll be begging for Compassion…”
I’m surprised nobody showed up naked. This is no true successor to UO until some naked guy crashes your wedding and starts mauling a bard instrument. Anyways, I keep meaning to fire this up again but keep getting distracted by RE Revelations 2’s instanced zombie grinder Raid Mode with limited online functionality (aka a modern MMO). Maybe I’ll do it… now.
Makes me miss the old days.
