Crowfall will be powered by Unity 5

The newly released Unity 5 cross-platform game engine will be responsible for driving at least one upcoming title: Crowfall.

The team said that it’s been working with Unity 5’s beta and was pleased with the tech’s “impressive collection” of modules: “From their new PhysX 3.3 integration for physics simulation (extremely important to Crowfall’s unique flavor of physically based combat) to their usage of Mono and the .NET platform, the developers at Unity have been kind enough to assemble a veritable dream team of game development middleware.”

Saw this game described as a cross between Game of Thrones and EVE Online. That was all it took to send me running away screaming.

pid AAA game dev’s rarely use asset store stuff. They will during pre production to use for benchmarks and unit tests and white rooms, but if they end up shipping with any (and it happens from time to time), the art team will consider it a failure and would likely be embarrassed about them.

Ironwu nah, they have to mention the Hero engine as they did some early dev work on it while they were making their own one. Same situation as DA:Origins using the NWN Aurora engine initially.

I’ll reserve judgement until I can see what they can do and the gameplay vids to prove it.

PaganRites Correction. Not a co-op. I misunderstood my friend who said he wanted me to play the game with him. It is one on one PvP from what I understand, as well as single player.

PaganRites Take a look at Mordenheim: City of the Damned. While not an MMO, it is a co-op game and looks pretty good to me.
I’m glad for the updates to Unity since I have a stake(i.e. donated) in a future game I’m really looking forward to…Valiance Online.

PaganRites The world blending” works” for game slike 7d2d but I wouldn’t want to see that cut and paste thing going on in an mmo.

Oleg Chebeneev I think it’s fine and the art style is fabulous.

I expect them to have taken the license with the engine’s source code available. I’ve shipped enough titles using Unity to know how painful it is to not know how it’s working behind and to not be able to tweak it. When you have the engine crashing before even reaching your code… Welp.

Also, if they could avoid using Unity for the server like the team behind Pathfinder Online did (team then blaming Unity for that when they’re those who tried to use a non-MMO tech for the servers…).

I didn’t mind instanced maps way back in GW1 times, and I don’t mind it now.
As long as the gameplay is solid.
