15

Eight new playable mercenaries have joined the Atlantica Online roster with yesterday’s patch. The Shadow Legion consists of martial arts beggars who have begun to to disappear. The new mercs have been sent to figure out the mystery behind these disappearances.

Atlantica is also preparing to merge two of its North American servers, Delphi and Mycenae, on March 26th. The team is allowing the community to vote on a name for the new server on the forums.

You can check out the Shadow Legion trailer after the break!

FineFineValentine Played it for six months back in 2010. Really interesting and different game – until you realize just how completely it is ruined by its disgusting business model.

NemuiByakko ChristopherPierce FineFineValentine Yeah, my experience with it is from that time when it was a lot of fun. I stopped paying attention once Nexon got it.

ChristopherPierce NemuiByakko FineFineValentine Well, it was really good 4-3 years ago… Epic Titan championships… Sharingan… Unexpected party builds.. Clever moves… Nostalgie )

NemuiByakko ChristopherPierce FineFineValentine Hey, I agree. I still like what AO is despite its cash shop!

I can’t believe this game is still going.
For any commenters that are curious, I played it a while back for about 2 years on and off, and left soon after the game focused on a new game-mode.
Atlantica online is ‘interesting’. The turn-based combat is cool, but it does seem to get tedious in some of the latter quests. However, it’s evened out by Guild, solo, nation and merc Upgrade dungeons that challenge you to strategize more based on the circumstance. There’s also another game-mode using a different combat system. The Tactical Battle System (TBS) is more like a Turn-based strategy game, top-down style, like the most recent X-Com. This is where my gripes remained. While they patched up as much of the TBS system, the old system got less and less fixes and significantly lower rewards. Meaning more people felt no need to run the dungeons using the original battle system when you can get more rewards.
Unfortunately, having these 8 new characters are not much of a surprise, because eventually the goal is to sell the gamble boxes on the store to get a chance at the mercs. Then in game they’ll set an arbitrary limit on how and when you can get them.

I’d say to anyone interested. Give it a try. The combat is different but keep in mind, that it is not very refined.

It’s pretty sad that our choices are a Frenchman’s acid trip or a bad asian f2p.

ChristopherPierce FineFineValentine Wakfu > AO. Don’t go AO way, it demands incredible much time and money :( Been there :(

camelotcrusade I played it A LOT, many years. It is a strange mix of good and very bad features. Good ones: very nice combat, especially in pvp competitions, really unparallel. Bad ones: it is extremelly gready P2W shop game. They do everything, go for any length to extort money from you. I never seen anything like that in any other game! AND on high levels (not just on levelcup, on 30-40 lvls before it) it is maddeninly grindy. Btw even if you pay $1000 evey month you won’t be able not to drind, that is also very rare ))). Now it is ghosttown, and they made going through first 100 levels very fast and easy, you won’t see nearly nothing of mentioned bad things during it. But if you take the bait… Mua-ha-ha-ha!!! )

FineFineValentine Not the only one but definitely one of the few. There’s also Waikfu for a more FF Tactics feeling (and some light sandbox features).

I wanted to try this out some time ago and just lost track of it. I mean, it’s, like, the only MMO with turn-based combat. I find that fascinating. I really gotta give it a shot.
