RIFT crafters may soon have a good reason to get out of their safety bubbles in the city and get their hands dirty to further their tradeskills. According to a short post on the official forums, the team is currently working on a new type of crafting system that interfaces with the game’s signature rifts.
In reference to a player suggesting a rift that had a crafting station and mobs that dropped components in it, Senior Game Designer Noah Holmes said, “Awesome, this is very close to the Planar Crafting system I’m working on implementing right now actually.”

Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
I recently jumped back into Rift after playing a bit at launch. Â I’m blown away out how good this game has become. Â I loved the leveling process and have been enjoying the different end game content. Â I’m sure I’ll hit that point where I’ll want to take a break but I highly recommend this game to anyone who hasn’t tried it. And, for the most part, you really can enjoy this game playing F2P. Â My only purchase was the boxed set for $7 on amazon which gives me access to a ton of things, plus a month of patron status. Â My leveling to 65 netted me over 2k platinum.
So replacing broad ‘crifts’ (crafting rifts) with rifts that only have to do with a specific profession? Or what?
Wasn’t there already something like that in the game before? Still, sounds good to me! I haven’t been able to play Rift as much as I’d like, but I still have fun with it occasionally.
Rift lost me the moment they started moving towards letting every class do every-thing.Â
That said, there are so many great things about this game, from the implementation of souls and their combinations (though I think there is still progress to be made creating synergy between more of them, it’s an extremely fun class system) to the best F2P design I’ve seen in any game, ever, that really make me love the idea of it. I’m glad they’re still coming up with ideas for the current players. Even though I no longer play, I’d hate to see Rift close down.
Greaterdivinity fangGWJ The souls really didn’t come into their own until like the 40’s at the earliest. They seemed bland when compared to the Storm Legion souls. The dominator/necromancer/arbiter, cabalist/purifier/druid or cabalist/purifier/defiler were working really well when the new souls came out. And after some dabbling with these new souls, they didn’t compel me enough to switch from those 3 favorite builds.
fangGWJ I don’t think we’ll hear about that until nearing the end of the year.
Out of curiosity, why did you feel burned by the NT soul pack?
Any word on the new calling?
So they’re bringing back crafting rifts? >.>
kalex716 It’s a fun game. I rather enjoy it.
I’ve never tried this game before.
