Das Tal continues Kickstarter push with a megaton of new info

Keep it going, folks.

Have you been keeping up with Das Tal’s Kickstarter updates? The game’s crowdfunding drive has hit its midpoint, and Fairytale Distillery has posted everything from an overview of player buildings to “constantly changing worlds.” The indie PvP sandbox allows its developers to “create new and diverse servers with unique rule sets all the time,” and it allows for player input as well.

There’s also a siege system preview, a bit of MMO design philosophy, and a video history of Das Tal. Check out the videos below.

The 3rd video had me intrigued. The stuff they talk about all sounds great in concept.

However, the 1st and 4th video changed my thoughts completely. Something about the games combat just seems really dull and cumbersum. Kinda like sticking 20 people in a a 10×10 room and having them just all take turns slapping each other every second or two.

Probably worth mentioning that they just added a new tier to the kickstarter, it may be a better deal for you if you’re like me and not thrilled to drop 40 euro on something you’re not entirely sure you’d like enough.

They clearly took inspiration for combat from Bloodline Champions. But man… does it look clunky compared to BLC. Even though i like the foundation of the game and wish to support them, 40 euro feels too expensive for game like that. And why not make it available for tablets? It just begs to be played on them

PaganRites Ket_Viliano wahnsinnicK  The small details really matter. The feel has to be good and smooth, everything that is in has to work well, and work together, regardless of the feature set. Sad news about that AA cash shop, AA could have been great but had way to many problems.

Ket_Viliano PaganRites wahnsinnicK Albion so far has a broader scope, but it also has a forced cash shop that damn near killed the last Alpha experience for me.  I’ve read the Albion Devs have made some adjustments on that end, but I’m still a little scared that they are taking an Archeage approach to their cash shop.

That said, Das Tal’s combat, in my opinion, at least matched Albion’s, and it was just more of an organic feel.  In part because Albion’s instancing interfered with PvP at times.  They both have their merits, but right now I’m much more happy with Das Tal.  Which is ironic since I’d say Albion is further along in development.

PaganRites wahnsinnicK  This is why competition is good, and why we need more MMO games from more companies, especially independent and new developers. There is just no telling, early on, which will win out or even be a decent product. If I had to judge from when I first heard of these projects, Albion Online sounded better and further along than Das Tal, but clearly that is no longer the case. I may just back Das Tal, and if not it is still on my watch list for when it launches.

wahnsinnicK Das Tal already has a good in game community with some pretty good rivalries.  BTW I’m also an Albion Founder.  I feel your pain.  :P
