Blade & Soul offers an overview of the world at large

There’s a great big world out there in Blade & Soul, but if you were hoping it would be a calm and welcoming place in which people of diverse talents could come together… well, let’s just go ahead and say no. The realm is actually split between the two biggest factions duking it out until most people can’t remember a time when they weren’t at war, as outlined in the game’s most recent fly-through of the game’s lore and setting.

At the core of the conflict is one that likely sounds familiar to players who have seen their fair share of fantastical settings. The Stratus Empire looks to recover the devices and knowledge of the Naryu Empire, while the Talus Dominion fears that unearthing those ancient weapons means repeating the same mistakes of that older assembly. That’s in addition to the ongoing feud between the Cerulean Order and the Crimson Legion, the relentless pirate attacks, and the various beast kin. Check out the full post for more details on the conflicts plaguing the realm.

SoMuchMass There are many words that I would use to describe NCSoft’s attitude to bringing this game to the West, rush is not one of them.

Madda I didn’t know these games even had male avatars in them, I guess that’s what all those skinny girls with no boobs are suppose to be…..weird :)

zyrusticae kgptzac I think there is one big raid content that happens on weekends that have something to do with factions.  Most non-end game faction stuff are basically dailies that are more effectively completed without engaging players from opposite faction and just farm the npc.

NCSoft probably saw the incredible success of Tera in the West and decided to rush this game out.

kgptzac For the main story, no, but they definitely have a big impact on the world as they show up everywhere. You’re basically reminded of their eternal conflict at every turn.
They have a lot of contrast, too, in terms of their design, color schemes, philosophies, and so on. Moreso than Alliance vs Horde, even. I’m curious to see if more people roll the expected Crimson Legion this time around…

Madda finds it offensive that there is no male only race.
Madda’s gunna sue and make sure it will never release here! Muhahahaha!
