WRUP: Apparently I am excited about Demon Hunters edition

I like the style these ladies have.

If you had asked me a week ago, I would have said that I don’t have any particular need or desire for Demon Hunters to be a thing. Now I think I’m legit excited about them. I don’t know how this happened, it makes no sense to me at all, it’s really not my thing, and yet here I am. I seriously am considering what it’ll mean to play one. I couldn’t explain it to you, I really couldn’t.

I will not, however, be playing one this weekend. No one will. The expansion was just announced, and thus this week’s What Are You Playing doesn’t feature anyone enjoying it. It just features all of the other stuff that we’re playing, so that should be fun. Whether or not we’re thinking about it is another discussion, but the feature is What Are You Playing, not What Are You Speculating About.

Brendan Drain (@nyphur) & Tina Lauro (@purpletinabeans): We’re on the floor at Gamescom 2015 this week. If there’s anything in particular you’d like us to get some hands on time with or any questions you’d like to see posed to developers, let us know in the comments and we’ll try to do it this weekend.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Probably nothing since we’re moving to the new place this weekend. But I have Project Gorgon and Trove loaded up and waiting for me!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Some stuff to be done in Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, always. I’m also becoming a bit cognizant of how much stuff is sitting unfinished in my Steam library; may wish to address that.

Jef Reahard (@jefreahard): I’ll probably set aside an hour or two for Project Gorgon. Other than that I’m not doing much gaming this weekend.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I have two big goals for the weekend: To get some more facetime with Project Gorgon (and defuse my character’s cursed gigantic head) and to make some serious progress with my Bounty Hunter in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Even with the 12x leveling speed on, it’s still such a big story that it’s taking me a lot of time to get through.

Larry Everett (@Shaddoe, blog): I’ve got a SWTOR guild meeting on Sunday as well as my raid. Other that that, I’m trying to find a way to help pull my server’s RP community a little closer together; it seems to have separated with the introduction of strongholds. I’ve found that RP in MMOs doesn’t do well without a bit of critical mass. Hopefully, I can find more people to help me build that.

Matt Daniel (@Matt_DanielMVOP): I’ve downloaded Project Gorgon, so I figure I’ll probably pop in and see what all the fuss is about. Aside from that, it’ll probably be my usual array of Final Fantasy XIV with the occasional dash of Marvel Heroes and maybe some Hearthstone for good measure.

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): I’ve got EverQuest II, Ark: Survival Evolved, and Project Gorgon all lined up for this weekend. I’ll also toss in a smidgen of Grand Theft Auto Online and The Secret World. I may have to binge play while I have the chance and go off the grid for a spell.

Justin Reiter: Primarily playing Guild Wars 2 at the moment, anxiously awaiting the weekend beta to play around with Masteries and figure out what order I want to progress through them. Also trying to tackle the impossible task of getting though my single-player backlog (currently playing through the Baldur’s Gate saga; “not a small time investment” would be an understatement).

Jake Dunnegan: Neverwinter! I’ve been something of a harsh critic of the game, mostly due to the nature of its cash shop. However, having been a longtime D&D player, having a stronghold when a group gets to a certain point is almost akin to attaining the American dream, D&D gaming-wise. “Level up, get a keep, defend it, grow it, conquer neighboring territories, plan a flag, start a church, become a demi-god…”

I may be getting ahead of myself. In any case, the new expansion drops this week, and my tiny guild and I want to be ready for it! So I’m re-acquainting myself with upper levels in Neverwinter and perhaps playing some Heroes of the Storm as well. If I can somehow squeeze in a few more moments of time, The Secret World.

Brandon “KythasWraith” Adams: The plan last weekend was to play Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward while hung over, but the only part of that I accomplished was the hangover. I discovered my Fallout mods do not play nicely with Windows and spent the entire weekend (and this week) trying to fix them. What? I’m a compulsive troubleshooter! The plan for this weekend is to drop the mod fixing and to finally get back into FFXIV and earn myself some new ilvl 200 gear. Also, there was a new Star Citizen patch I plan to tinker with. If any of you have a stellar X52 Pro profile for Arena Commander, please let me know!

Your turn!

That concept art looks as if the Demon Hunter is wearing panties on her head…

To me WoW is so alt-unfriendly that even an exciting class ends up pointless.  I was excited about Monks but never really had the time to play one.

I hear there is pro. I do t know how to get to it or the requirements but I feel like I would not be very good or happy with it. Kinda enjoy playing the card game. At the same time I think worrying about that and the gold saucer distracted me too much from the main story and I wound up stopping. I am so easily derailed.

GoJammit I just started back up again and for the moment I can’t see any immediate reasons to get the expansion just yet.  Left shortly after PVP was introduced, so never got a chance to play with Rogue, see the Gold Saucer and the other content drops inbetween.

It took me about a day to figure out wtf I was doing when I left :p

The only problem I’ve had so far with the update is is that my 360 drivers stopped working. If anyone runs into this issue just reinstall them from the computer by selecting update from device manager. Apparently reinstalling from the disk is an issue, from what I read.

I am seriously thinking about dropping the money to come back to final fantasy. I’m not even close to max level on any of my jobs. Is there any benefit for me to get the expansion immediately.

Polyanna Demon Hunters have the prison world Marduun. Don’t know if it’ll be their own zone, but given the class halls it’s pretty likely.

Also, while a lot of what you said has a ring of “how little can we get away with” it also has a ring of “how much redundancy can we trim out so we can focus on making content faster”. Things like separating pvp and pve, only having to make 36 weapons, only having 2 races for the new class etc all mean much less work on the part of blizzard.

While it might sound like Blizz is just being lazy, they’re also making other positive changes that make me think they’re finally taking steps in the right direction. Such as all the class changes that are de-homogenizing the classes and giving them their own feel. Like how Survival Hunters will be melee with pets, Marksman will be ranged with no pet, and beast master will be ranged with pets.

All of the above leads me to think that Blizzard is trying to trim down the amount of work they have to do in order that they can focus on what’s important. If they made demon hunter for everyone then that’d be MUCH more modeling work, they no longer have to worry about constant rebalances to pve and pvp (if their new system works), and they have a whole lot less modeling to do since they don’t need to make a bunch of weapons.

Polyanna I understand what you are saying Poly, but they got me at “New Class: Demon Hunter”.    That said, whenever it drops, I shall report on the repetitiveness post-haste.

Those who think that Legion is going to be the anti-WoD and a “real” expansion for a change really should take a step back and look at the announcement with dry eyes for a moment. Everything they announced nearly screams “how little can we get away with”; the new class most of all.

So we finally get a new class. Restricted to two races because, let’s face it, if they tried to make it Pandaren exclusive the internet would burn Blizzard’s offices to the ground. But hey, at least we have two elf races to make the job a little easier for the riggers. ONE weapon, because . . . reasons (“Don’t worry they’ll have dual wield . . . sometime”). TWO specs, because we couldn’t figure out how to have just one. (AND we can rip off DK and Warlock both for the  talents and animations).

But look! Double Dash! WOOHOO!

The zones and dungeons are the same minimal set that WoD had. In the end there likely won’t even be an exclusive zone for the new class; it will just start at 100 in the middle of the regular leveling zones for everyone else. Class Order Halls are Garrisons 2.0 Now With Other People; like how we all go to a movie to sit in the theater playing with out phones for 20 minutes instead of sitting at home with Netflix.

And this time around they couldn’t even be bothered to churn out new weapon drops for the leveling zones.

“Won’t people notice that we only made 36 weapons for an entire expansion?”

“Nah. We’ll just call them Artifacts. Slap some perk trees on them and people will go nuts.”

“And the best part is, they’re all just a bunch of old legendaries. We won’t need new skins at all!”

“The perk trees sound like kind of a lot of work.”

“Yeah, we can just drop that after beta because . . . we’ll figure something out.”

“What about those new capital cities everyone wanted?”

“Is that thumb drive with old Dalaran on it still around somewhere?”

“Oh yeah. Great idea!”

“Good job, people! I think we’re ready for Gamescom!”

Getting back into FFXIV this month with a few friends.  Still a lot of things to do prior to moving on to the expac.

Also, “Demon Hunter” class gave me renewed life when it comes to WoW.  I am a sucker for new classes, this might get me back in the game while we wait for the Legion to drop.  Anyone have an educated guess on when that expansion pack might be coming out?
