The Secret World players rally for the Malala Fund

HELLO WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN LONG DIVISION

In the setting of The Secret World, learning is not really a great thing. There are multiple organizations devoted to making sure that people don’t learn things they shouldn’t know, and the list of things one shouldn’t know is quite lengthy besides. It’s kind of horrifying. In the real world, however, education is vital. That’s why a fan-based project is attempting to raise $10,000 for the Malala Fund by January 1st, helping to ensure that girls the world over receive the education they deserve.

As of this writing, the project is just shy of $8,000 raised with the remainder of December to go. Those who contribute $20 or more will receive a digital art book made by volunteer artists from the community as a way of thanking those who offered their money. There’s still plenty of time if you want to support the initiative, to boot, even if you’re not normally someone who plays The Secret World.

I’ve been meaning to do this but it got buried under all the other stuff I’ve been meaning to do! Thanks for the reminder.

Armsbend JimGriffiths Yes, great points. Not to mention that instead of getting someone another gift card or scented candle they won’t really care about, a growing number of people are giving charitable donations in a friend or family member’s name as a holiday gift.

JimGriffiths That couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Christmas time is a time when many hearts open up to giving to those less fortunate.  My family sets aside a certain amount each year to be doled out.  If we are doing okay we increase the amount.

Especially today when we hear all of this religious rhetoric – donating to women regardless of race, creed or religion during a predominantly Christian celebration – I cannot think of a better time.

JimGriffiths To be fair, there’s a lot of donation solicitation around the holidays. Ever see those folks outside the stores ringing the bells, for example? : P

And can only help bring some of these places out of the dark ages. People are not property.

Great idea but the worst timing possible. Why? Christmas. They should have started this when people have more money to blow instead of when people are buying gifts for friends and family.

This is a great idea thanks for the heads up.  Educating and protecting women around the world could be argued the most powerful weapon in the fight against global oppression for all people.
