Star Citizen adds unmelt tool, will be tweaking it further

Star Citizen backers who have been living with remorse over scrapping a ship or package now have a way to undo that terrible mistake with the addition of a new unmelt tool. The tool is located in the back of one’s hangar.

Previously, players who “melted” ships in exchange for store credit had to petition customer service to have that action reversed. Ships were melted for various reasons, including the desire to trade up to a different ship or package as new ones came out.

CIG said that the unmelt tool isn’t working 100% properly, as buying back with store credits is not available. The studio vowed to keep working on it:

Hey guys! I’m sorry for the trouble. We will absolutely change this system, it’s just going to take a little work. We’ve spoken to the web team and there’s not an option for just turning on store credit with the current design… so it’ll take a little thinking and a new build to make right. (I know you’ve already figured this out, but there does need to be some balance; perhaps a limited number of times you can unmelt a particular package, or a limited number of unmelts per month. We’ll figure it out and report once it’s decided!)

I have to say this is an awesome tool.  I had a freelancer package before the variants were launched.  I upgraded to the exploration version of the ship when it launched, then later upgraded to the Carrack.  Doing the upgrade was basically a melt with a purchase.

I was going to give my brother a freelancer package for xmas, and just saw that I can un-melt my original package.  This means it comes with more, is less money, and has Life Time Insurance and I can gift that package to him.  Worked out great.

Oh, I missed that completely. Just arrived here. But I’m sure I didn’t miss anything important. :)

At least you can actually see them and they only cost half of the Emperor’s new clothes.

No, that won’t be possible. This is a tool for “Your Hangar” page in your RSI account. When the game releases (if not before) and you can only get ships in-game, this tool isn’t needed anymore.

PaganRites also, I am so glad that customers can pay for a 2,500$ ship. RSI. They are real givers.

To be fair, it isn’t the official name of the tool, just the name everybody use (even CIG themselves). :)

I have to say, the amount of control a customer has with Star Citizen is unprecedented.  Trade your ship in, dollar for dollar, at any time, for another ship.  Now, correct your mistake, on your own, without having to go through customer service.  This type of thing really sets RSI apart from most companies.

That’s why I like MOP so much.
Its possible to have a reasonable discussion with most people about both the good and the bad, while at the same time the mods are quick to step in if there is reason to.
I dont mind criticism as long as I can have a reasonable and/or constructive discussion about it.

Just did a refresh after you mentioned it here, its all gone now as if it was never posted.
Not that I mind, it was a futile and pointless effort to try and reason with it anyway.
