Marvel Heroes starts selling Advance Pack 3 and 1602-era costumes

What, did you think that Marvel Heroes was going to take it easy and not churn out another small army of superheroes this year? Think again, buster, because the Marvel Heroes Advance Pack 3 is here, selling a batch of heroes, costumes, bank tabs, and other goodies for one meaty price.

Advance Pack 3 starts at $60 and includes Angela, Black Bolt, Elektra, Green Goblin, Nick Fury, and Ultron as they are released in the game. There’s an unannounced seventh hero that’s also part of the pack. The deluxe verseion for $80 also includes four team-ups, including Miles Morales and Kamala Khan. All of these heroes “should” be released in 2016, although the studio is leaving itself wiggle room just in case.

If you’re a fan of the 1602-era alternative reality comic books, then you’ll probably be glad to hear that a pair of costumes from these issues will be arriving in the game this week. Both Rogue and Doctor Strange will get the 1602 treatment, although let’s hope that others are on their way as well.

Carthoris Neo_Wolf Going by what they have said on their forums (specifically the thread about feedback on the AP3) they had free reign over who they could choose for the pack.  so the absence of any mutants isn’t down to Marvel stopping them, instead it’s down to Gazillion.  :(

Neo_Wolf I wouldn’t worry much about the balance. They’ve got what are canonically *far* more powerful heroes in the game like Thor, DrS, and Silver Surfer and those are fine.

The villain thing really bothers me. They made a huge deal about how Marvel insisted Carnage wouldn’t ever be playable and only a team-up because he was only good during the Axis Inversion thing and wasn’t “really” good, so why the hell is Ultron in there?

I’m worried we’ll never seen another mutant in the game :( Marvel seems hell-bent on minimizing anything they can’t directly tie in to the cinematic universe and the X-Men are the top of that list. Beast and Angel have been talked about and anticipated since RELEASE – the only reason I see we don’t have them yet is Marvel telling Gaz they can’t.

The selection is a bit meh..to me this time round, only really Angela (Asgards Assassin) who appeals to me, though she will need to be massively balanced as she is essentially Cosmic power level.

The inclusion of so many out and out villains is a little off putting to as dropping an out and out villain into heroic storylines just makes NO SENSE to me at all.  Its a disservice to villains, they need their own storylines and perspective.  Its not so bad when they include villains who have gone good before i.e Magneto, Doom, Venom etc.. but when they include total out and out villains it just doesn’t fit the perspective the game is played from.  It is called Marvel HEROES Online, afterall.

The reduced number of heroes this time isn’t really a concern for me, the inclusion of 2 costumes for each, 4 team ups and all the usual stuff more than makes up for it.

I would have much preferred Beast, Angel, Angela, Jubilee, Wasp, Wonder Man, Professor Xavier as my selection it would have filled in some significant gaps in their X-men and Avengers offerings. :)

DekuSnow They are giving 4 team ups instead to sort of make up for it so its not a total loss :)

vicariousfan brix50 The only character who was missing from the original Ultimate pack before the second one released was Nova, and they explained (over and over again) the reasoning behind that. This has never been an “always done” thing since it’s literally happened once.

With the amount of new heroes added being cut in half and the all the recent staff departures, I’m very interested to see what this big 2016 patch is going to bring.  Have they really been working on revamping the game and finally bringing in some much needed new content or is there just less characters because there’s barely any staff left?

I also continue to find their choice of new characters highly questionable,  not to complain that they aren’t catering to me specficially, but it just feels so random.  You’d think they’d do more to tie-in with recent events in the MCU and comics.  Angela and Elektra at least make sense for that, but Medusa has a far more prominent role these days than Black Bolt, especially with A-Force and where are fan favourites like Kamala Khan and Miles?  Oh, they’re here as team ups..  I don’t see anyone scrambling to install the game so they can play as the Green Goblin or Ultron, who’s going to have been completely forgotten about by the time he’s finally added.  At least Cross Bones would have some relevancy if they really need to have more villains.

I’m sure creating new characters isn’t a simple process, but they could really be doing more to tie into recent Marvel events and bring in new fans instead of adding more hardcore content and a handful of B-listers that appeal to the same 800 people still playing the game.

1602 is an interesting timeline, since I’m a history buff. I’m also a Neil Gaiman fan. Made a good combo, mostly.
