Gloria Victis alpha patch adds NPC battles and resource depletion

HAVE AT YE, FOUL TREE STUMP!

The player characters in Gloria Victis are not the only moving pieces in the game world. Even without players there, NPCs are still undertaking actions. The latest patch to the game’s alpha highlights this with NPC battles – foxes sneak off to pick up chickens, opposing factional mercenaries will charge one another, and bears do battle with beehives in one-sided combat. (The last one may be speculative.) Future patches will expand upon this functionality, with full-scale war between NPCs that players can either take part in or simply work around.

The patch is also adding in gathering nodes that become exhausted, forcing players to move on and find new sources of materials. Other quality-of-life improvements include a more straightforward character selection screen on logging in and improvements to the options window. It’s not a content-heavy patch, but it should provide players with plenty of new ways to interact with the existing world.

Gloria Victis is really great, the team behind the game is developing something really special.

It costs only 10 bucks to participate in testing. Really cool devs too. I should reinstall =P

Kanbe  Yep!  Would be cool.  I mean, yes, we expect a time gap from single player games… but Gothic was doing this far more impressively, and TES games to some extent, back in 2000-2001.  It is well past time NPCs had more to their schedule than to stand or sit in one spot in MMOs.

My intentions whernt a pvp’er vs a pve’er haha
I am a pve’er carebear ! Lol
But I still like the concept of going to a town .. Or small settlement and seeing a massive army headed your way (npc) or watching a town fall ..
Having you and friends (ahem pve’ers ;)) band together to take the town back would be very cool.
I understand why people complained though for rift .. Quest givers at the time where getting killed which would of been annoying for some .. I’m sure the same type of people complained when wrath in wow was going on and everyone was getting turned into a zombie lol
People like that .. Arnt PvP’ers nore are they pve’ers …
I donno what kind of players they are ..
As a reminder PvE stands for player vs environment
PVP stands for player vs player
Somewhere along the lines these terms got screwed up..
Just because someone bitches about a town being taken over by npc’s dosnt mean they hate PvP’ers lol .. Saying that just shows how closed minded and ignorant you are @cures
Matter of fact .. I don’t see how that even has to do with anything PVP haha
Scratch this one up to ignorant kid who can’t read :)

I know nothing about this game but with just this im intrigued. More mmo’s need to give NPCs some life aside from standing around all day waiting to talk to you.

cures Smiggins Ten10K No it’s quite accurate, sorry to see your not aware of it. This is of course a broad covering of the two types, there are always some people who don’t quite fall under either term.

Smiggins Ten10K ah! the old pve’er vs. pvp’er differentiation which is not only wrong but also dumb! and i thought it’s 2016 …

Ten10K I remember the first time I was in Sanctuary when an army of NPC’s made it to the city. It really surprised me.

Smiggins Ten10K Eh I’m primarily a PvE player and I like the concept of actually fighting back against NPCs who try to take stuff over.  Though I’m probably a weird subsection of PvErs who wants to have consequences.   Quite a few do seem content with things staying static and inconsequential.

Ten10K PVEers like their games safe, which is why they dont like open world PVP.
