Get your time travel on with Dark Era

While time travel has certainly been done as part of MMO quests, could an entire game revolve around the sci-fi concept? Dark Era, a new title from Game 321, thinks it can indeed.

Launched this past week, Dark Era puts players in the role of Chrono adventurers who can hop through six time eras that span both eastern and western mythos. Stops include 1307 AD with King Arthur in Camelot, 1203 AD with Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest, 629 AD in Emporer Li’s camp and the Tang Dynasty, 44 BC in the Roman Empire, 1174 AD in Ancient Egypt, and 1420 AD with Joan of Arc in France. The game offers three classes and can be played through a browser or a client.

Check out the trailer after the break and see if this could be a quirky gaming possibility for your weekend!

Could at least try to fit the classes with the thematic eras. :( Got the standard “berserker”, elementalist and assassin class most asian mmos sem to like so much. Nothing new here.

Michael18 I suspect that is in part because in history some real group of people always plays the orcs.
They could put in the work to be sympathetic to and show things from every side. Even typing that last sentence with a straight face was difficult, considering the shallow nature of most MMOs.

I’m not a historian, but when they place King Arthur in 14th century and call Saladin’s Egypt “Ancient”, then I get a very bad feeling about this.

I’d love to see a historical MMO with different eras, where the devs pay as much attention to detail and correctness as Turbine does with LoTR lore. But this does not seem to be such a game.

Rozyn They also have King Arthur in 1307 AD, which even if he did exist would be somewhere around 600 AD. They also refer to 1174 AD as ‘Ancient’ Egypt. I am surprised a quick google search seems to verify the Joan of Arc, and Emperor Li dates.

Accuracy does not seem to be a high priority.

Did they just mix Robin Hood in with actual historical figures and called it ‘history’. Haha, right on then. Does not repeats, indeed.

The sound in this game is painful.

TomTurtle Indeed, using stolen art assets from other games, like the horse head glyph from Darksiders and the font from Dragon Age II for your title graphic does not inspire much confidence in the rest of the product.

Can I travel to a time where there aren’t classes?

mrnastybutler LostAnju Armsbend I think they’re actually the same game. Same character creation screen and newbie areas at least :P
