Battle Bards podcast listens to Age of Wushu’s score

This week on the Battle Bards podcast, the crew visits the far east to evaluate the merits of Age of Wushu’s soundtrack. With strong Chinese themes and a very traditional sound, it’s a love-it-or-leave-it proposition for some of these bards!

Battle Bards is a bi-weekly podcast that alternates between examining a single MMO’s soundtrack and exploring music tracks revolving around a theme. MOP’s Justin Olivetti co-hosts with bloggers Steff and Syl. The cast is available on iTunes, Stitcher, and Player.FM.

We’ve got Episode 67: Age of Wushu for you after the break!

The opening theme is actually taken directly from the main theme from the hugely successful and critically-lauded martial arts movie “Hero,” directed by the acclaimed Zhang Yimou, with a very beautiful soundtrack composed by the famous composer Tan Dun. Given that Jet Li, who starred in “Hero,” promoted Age of Wushu, I think it actually makes a lot of marketing sense.

Elirion bayspoon My dream game, is someone to take the exact game design systems in this…..and put it in a cyberpunk themed world…boom. I’m living in that game.

Seems to me to mostly be background music you pay peripheral attention to while you’re in game doing stuff and going places. Not much that tells a story of it’s own. Mind you the music shouldn’t be a distraction but it should enhance what’s going on. Not getting that vibe from it.

Edit: Is it just me or is Livefyre being absolutely awful lately, taking forever to attempt to post and then just failing? I also don’t like the new email notification system, it’s much less instantly clear who did what action in response to which comment. -1 for Livefyre.

bayspoon  I agree.  Great game ruined by an incompetent company.

I actually recall the soundtrack to this standing out to me, when I look back at the days I was into it(love everything about the game design, dont love how it’s published/presented).
