Confession time: MMORPGs haven’t always brought out the best in me. Sometimes I’ve gotten irritated when real life “intrudes” on gaming, even if it’s just a family member wanting some attention. Sometimes I’m suspicious that these games cultivate a nasty sense of greed, of “got mine” in all of us. And once in a great while I’ll see someone playing a non-MMO and then have to challenge them to fisticuffs on the spot.
Then again, I could point to how MMOs have helped me in some ways. Certainly they’ve been a blessing in forming and developing relationships, and I’m always inspired when I see the community rise to be generous and helpful to those in need. My interest in them kept me writing about them for a decade now, which has certainly helped my professional and personal life.
So how do MMOs bring out the best and worst in you?
