The Daily Grind: Are you a bad MMO hero?

By now it’s an old hat that all MMORPGs keep casting us in the role of local hero and world savior. No matter where we go, we save the day by furiously killing anything with a red name above its head. NPCs praise us, children want to be us, and there is nothing we can do wrong in the eyes of the populace.

Right? Well… not always.

I don’t think that I’m always a good MMO hero. No matter what a quest giver might say, my characters aren’t always out to commit wanton acts of altruism. Sometimes they are greedy, self-serving, and even antagonistic to those they “help.” Occasionally I choose the bad dialogue options or quest choices just to see what will happen, even though I know I am bucking against the noble, heroic option. Also, I don’t give a fig for Elves; their whole society can go jump off a cliff for all I care.

Are you a bad MMO hero? Sometimes?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
