Massively OP’s Weirdest MMORPG Stories of 2016: That World of Warships Steven Seagal thing

We’re counting down Massively OP’s weirdest MMORPG stories of 2016!

Coming in at #2 in our countdown is that whole World of Warships Steven Seagal thing, detailed in a couple of different articles we got stuck writing this past summer.

Wargaming basically signed actor and dojo master Steven Seagall as a promotional figure, dubbing him a “personal Heroic Battle Advisor” for World of Warships, which is actually not a terrible game and doesn’t deserve this, truly. It sort of sounds like a funny joke, like teaming up with budget Chuck Norris to sell cash-shop items, except it doesn’t really come off that way — maybe it’s lost in translation. In the promo video, Seagal goes from uncomfortably touring the studio to playing a ukulele to deadpanning that The Missouri is his favorite battleship — “because I was on The Missouri.” That he was on The Missouri in a movie is never actually vocalized. Bizarre indeed.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the final entry in our countdown, and don’t forget to check out our annual MMORPG awards and our blooper awards while you’re at it!
