World of Warcraft’s pet battle dungeon takes your little buddies through a gauntlet of pain

World of Warcraft’s pet battle system is one of those features that either you really love or you completely ignore. If you’re of the former persuasion, then you might be flipping out over the promised addition of an actual pet battle dungeon with Patch 7.2.

Yesterday, the devs posted a guide for the dungeon: what it is, how to get there, how it works, and what rewards you might get from it. The dungeon takes place in a modified Wailing Caverns, where a weekly quest challenge awaits Pokém… pet battle trainers. The team recommends that you have at least 15 level 25 pets to make it through the full challenge, as pets cannot be healed or revived during the ordeal.

For completing the challenge, players will get a reward bag that might contain leveling stones, pet charms, and a shot at one of three new pets. There’s also a mysterious mystery in the dungeon that the devs are only hinting at, so when you figure that out, let us know, hm?

Also, it’s Pet Battle Event week! 200% Pet Battle XP!

my addon recommendations for Pet Battles:
PetTracker
Rematch

If you haven’t gotten one, I highly recommend getting an Anubisath Idol from AQ40. At lvl 25 that pet can solo nearly every battle in the wild and even some Master Pet Tamers, allowing you to carry low level pets through those fights for big xp bonuses.

A legendary pet with a legendarily random drop chance?

The pet battle system in WoW is more pain than gain. Its like they deliberately tried to make it a pain in the arse.

Namely, the biggest issue for me is how long you have to wait between battles to heal your pets. Blizzards solution to this is to just battle with other, non-injured pets. My problem with that solution is that it already takes freaking forever to level up 3 pets, let alone how ever many others you use while waiting to be able to heal them.

The heal system simply needs to go. There isnt a good reason for it to even be there other than for it to be an obvious time gate mechanic, slowing down how quickly you can level up pets. You have to ask yourself. Why? Pets dont matter. They are purely fluff. Having a level 25 pet doesnt let you do raids better, or gank in pvp better. So why make it so that you have to wait so long between many fights just to heal?

The garrison makes it easy to level up pets with all the stones you earn also you can heal them their as often as you like, and as Paragon links to you can use bandages which you can earn for free as well.

Stablemasters and Pet Bandages = instant heals for your lil buddies!

Also, it’s Pet Battle Week = 2x XP from Pet Battles

Also(!), there are numerous NPC characters (Pet Tamers) you can battle that reward loads of XP when you beat them and can be defeated with less than 3 pets so you carry a low level pet through and get it high bonus XP. One easy one is Ashlei in Shadowmoon Valley (Draenor). You can defeat her with a solo lvl 25 pet (Anubisath Idol or Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling are good) and she has an Elkekk Plushie on her team that does no damage, so you can carry two level 1 pets in that fight and (during Pet Week) get each of them like 7 levels instantly.

Honestly, I’ve never really done Pet Battles much, I’ve fooled with it but then forget to advance my pets and am suddenly in content that will get them slaughtered. I think it’s a clever parallel system, and the idea of a ‘pet dungeon’ is pretty clever, even though I’ll likely never use it.
Good idea.

I have never been able to get into Pet Battles in any game and WoW is not the exception. There must be players that enjoy this content because Blizz. keeps adding more to it! Enjoy for those who are playing this content.
It is nice to see more than raiding being added to the game. Personally, I have not raided or even done many Mythic dungeons this expansion. I have never enjoyed wash, rinse and repeat content. Looking forward to Brawls and more love coming for PvP though!

They could have at least made a new dungeon instead of recycling the most boring dungeon in the game lol.

WC is more boring than Stockades?
Surely you jest.

Really? You think the Stockades is more boring than WC? Stockades was far from the best, but I could get into the plot revolving around the Stockades at least. I absolutely hated WC through and through.

Interesting, I liked both. Of course then again I loved the old Black Rock stuff as well.
