RIFT changes Starfall Prophecy to Prophecy of Ahnket; get it free this weekend

RIFT’s latest expansion is getting a name change from Starfall Prophecy to Prophecy of Ahnket. No, it’s not some veiled NGE; it’s just an attempt to reduce confusion with the Starfall Education Foundation charity, which seems a noble cause to us.

Perhaps the more important bit for would-be RIFT players is that the expansion is being offered for free to players who log in this weekend. Free stuff!

If you’ve already purchased the expansion, you’re not out of luck either; you’re getting a claimable Prophecy of Ahnket Cache with 2 Tenebrean Engines, 100 Phenomenal Sparkles, 10 Individual Reward Charges, 1 White Deer Companion Pet, and 1 Random Puzzle Box Dimension Item — that is, if you remember to log in and grab it before the timer runs down on May 14th. After the promo ends, the expansion will be $19.99.

Trion further notes it’s hard at work on the 4.2 update right now; it’ll include a normal mode for Tartaric Depths, big changes for the planar fragment system, and new Primalist souls.

Tried getting back in to see whats changed lately and it wasn’t until tonight the the “verification code” actually showed up in my email so I was unable to log in(originally the code was supposedly sent friday). Looks like the free event ended and then the code was sent, seems a bit dodgy there.

I just want to say that I really like POA’s main ‘hub’ (not as much hub as previous cities) a lot, aside from Trions continuing over-reliance on copied NPC models/reskins.

Is there a gear catch-up mechanic in SFP? I levelled a warrior only through questing and had to give up after a handful of my first SFP (wait, sorry, PA) quests because I was getting my ass handed to me and I didn’t want to mess with my souls enough to keep me around.

The trick seemed to be persevere long enough to get drops of the new zone’s gear, which seems to be scaled to obsolete the previous raid gear? I know expansions always obsolete the old stuff, but the difficulty jump seemed way off to me as well. Zone critters were doable but any zone invasion, forget it…

It doesn’t very quickly obsolete the previous raid gear (especially something crazy like the highest NMT Tier 3/3.5 stuff!), but it does over the course of the leveling for sure. I was online in mostly World gear so the first quests totally overwrote that.

You’ll find the gear drops to be really well suited to your level as you go. If you have trouble at first, find a player or two to group up with and you should be good to go as you gear up toward participation in raids (if that’s where you want to go).
Joining an active, supportive guild is also a HUGE factor in success for any game like RIFT. I strongly recommend it!

I got my ass handed to me as well but the first set of quests in the first zones should cover basic greens (which maybe blues, probably purples+ in NMT would be better than, but its still good).

They’re also emailing ‘come back’ codes to players who signed up for emails.

I got the otherwise $40 Essentials Pack (all souls so far, set to several character slots per shard, set to several bag slots) today for free, this way.

That is, today I got: Prophecy of Ahnket, Essentials Pack, a month of Patron, a month of login rewards, a Prophecy of Ahnket boost pack. Well I can’t say they haven’t tempted me, sheesh!

Wow. That would certainly make me look at going back for a while. :)
Was there another prerequisite to get that code? The only email I received was about the expansion.

I think it may have a random element. I wasn’t gone long (in terms of logging in; for regular play its been monthssss).

Me too. Got the emails about the free xpac weekend but nothing about the code for the free bundles :(

That would definitely get me back, I would love to try out the new souls but the price tag is pretty hefty.

Aye, we have a winback going on at the same time as this free expansion weekend and Ahnket Cache giveaway.

Players MUST opt in for emails (easy to do via the Glyph account page) in order for us to legally send them emails. Ater that, there is a somewhat random algorithmic process involved in selecting the recipients for the cool stuff (that’s a Marketing thing that us Community Dwarves don’t dabble in). Warmest congrats to all who were selected!

(side note: we do our best to be whitelisted, but some ISPs do flag our emails as spam, so check your spam folders!

RIFT had the best MMORPG launch I’ve ever seen and I quite enjoyed the game for a time. However, after seeing the state SFP was released in and how it was consequently handled I will not go back to this game for any reason, no matter how much free stuff I was offered. Perhaps I’m being dramatic but it was one of most egregious slaps in the face to a gaming community I can recall witnessing. It left a real bad taste in my mouth. Between that and ArcheAge the old fool me twice adage came into play.

Having said all that I do hope people get some enjoyment out of this.

I’ll go back if 2017 fixes and resolves a lot of the issues I’ve had, and I’ll spend money if a 2018 expansion delivers on what an expansion should be (or at least is priced and designed in a more realistic and reasonable way than SFP).

I need to re-DL Rift, but definitely worth it for a free expansion.
I still like this game, but playing other MMO’s, right now.
This story is very strange.
Hopefully, they’ll take advantage of this fresh start(symbolically speaking), and improve the new content, while repairing the trust of their player-base.

A full clarification for people: Even people who did NOT buy SFP, will get the bundle if they log in this weekend. Its a promo weekend for everyone in all ways.

Well I like free stuff so I will hit the update button to grab it at least not sure if I will play it anytime soon though but you never know :-)

Well I’ll log in. Also gross the behave as though the name change wasn’t a legal thing. Just be honest. For once.

On a more serious note, since I’m apparently a glutton for punishment, I started patching and skimmed the patch notes since I last played. They’ve given everyone the earring slots and got rid of the Planewalker: Water thing? While that didn’t affect me since I had bought into NT when it released, based on the number of complaints around those monetization schemes, I’d call that a positive sign.

Alas, once patching finished I got in, only to see that the thing that drove me to quit before even finishing the first zone of SP is still happening–whenever I try to target my Fire Storm (a ground-targeted AoE spell) while moving, it tells me “required conditions not met”. Never had this problem before SP. I’m done with arbitrary changes to my abilities that affect the way I play, and I never even saw mention of this change in the patch notes. So Trino, still not going back.

Finally, I notice a dip in REX prices (on Faeblight anyway ) over the last week or so, wonder if that’s correlated to other health signs that Trion monitors that prompted this promotion?
