Black Desert’s patch today extends loyalty events with new rewards

This Black Desert penguin, complete with lens flare, would like to come home with you. He’s part of the game’s new round of loyalty attendance rewards, which will now run through the 4th of July holiday.

“Please be aware that you will not be able to summon 2 of the [Event] Lost Penguins at once in game. We advise you to either exchange them to get a higher tier version, (if you already own one) or pick your preferred one. (Even if they’re both super cute),” says Kakao.

Don’t like penguins? What kind of monster are you? Welp, BDO has hedgehogs in the cash shops too. You’re welcome.

Today’s update also includes experience changes, a new welcome package in the game store, and assorted bug fixes and balancing tweaks, including adjustments to live advancement quests. The Golden Artifacts event has also returned for the month of June.

And the Juggernaut just keeps trucking along.

Another free Pet given away by Kakao. This is my 3rd or 4th Penguin I’ve gotten from Kakao so far not counting server merges. Looking forward to smashing it into the last one I kept as an icon and hoping to upgrade my T3 Penguin to a T4. The timing is excellent for new players as the auto-fish reduction it gives is wonderful for AFK Fishing.

Fishing has a variety of levels to it. The most basic levels people just “AFK” fish. So you throw on a fishing rod, then based on the resources (Depeleted -> Abundant) and your +Fishing Skill it takes X amount of seconds/minutes to snag a fish. At that point you can either let it AFK catch it (default of 3 minutes, which this Penguin reduces) or you can press Space Bar and do the little fishing mini-game of pressing ASDF combinations depending on what you caught. So if it’s 2 letters you know you caught a bad fish, but if you get one with 10 letters look out you got a Gold Fish.

There are also hot spots that as your fishing increases you can see them in the ocean, similar to ArcheAge that you can fish out and usually have loads of blue/gold fish worth a lot that you want to actively fish for. You can actually make a decent amount of money getting those and then turning them in to the Imperial Fish Vendor which then gives Golden Fish Seals used for other rewards in addition to money. There’s fishing boats to go out to deeper/other parts of the water as well where as many people don’t fish so you can get a better turn in. Fishing is also one of the two primary ways of acquiring Relic Shards that allow you to make scrolls which when done yield memory fragments to repair the best gear types in the game (or just sold for more profit).

There’s also deep ocean harpoon fishing, but I honestly haven’t done that, but I’ve seen a few items like killer whales and such as well. I’m not sure what the Magoria expansion did for fishing but I heard it was pretty good addition. It’s 100% viable to get through the tutorial to Velia, stop, and just be like “!@#$ it.” and literally fish the rest of your BDO time. So challenge is as much as you’d want up to that, but other than the “simon says” and hunting down hot spots it seems fairly basic.

What keeps me playing is that they have given a bit of thought and effort towards everything. As I’m fond of saying, “Everything is a thing in BDO.” It’s nice because it’s one of the few games I’ve seen that actively and aggressively supports just about any play style and regularly seems to add updates for all of them. I just don’t see that in MMOs today.

As your skill increases, the letter combinations get shorter.

Hotspots are 100% gold-rarity fish.

I’m Guru 8 fishing, it’s a grind like anything else, but no challenge. After a yr of active fishing, I just afk fish while I play other games now, lol.

Ya know he’s really not such a bad little bugger once you get him his body back and he stops trying to take your power :)

I started playing BDO recently just to try out the striker class, and I must say it is possibly the most fun class I’ve played in an MMO. He’s like an MMO version of Ken/Ryu from Street Fighter. He’s a never stopping whirlwind of melee combos. It’s almost a let down to stop and pick up loot, though you do get to admire the pile of bodies you’ve created. I’m sure he probably sucks at end-game because I seem to have a knack for picking the worst class to play, but in the mean time I’m having fun.

Fun is all that matters. I use kung fu kicks even as my Sorceress. It’s just satisfying to use as a finishing move.

The striker is good and bad at end game. As a base class it’s relatively strong compared to the others but this is likely due to design since they think most of the base, non-awakened classes need a review. The main issue it suffers from is Accuracy because many of it’s attacks are x2-x4 hits which means if you miss with 1 that’s a significant 25-50% damage loss so stacking accuracy (Leather/Kutum Vambrace or Red Coral Earrings) will be a must and around 59+ you’ll notice any lack of accuracy at Sulfurs/Pila Ku and PvP. The Awakening was recently boosted in KR and likely will receive a few other balance passes but has similar Accuracy issues.

As a class they are very strong 1v1 because of their large amount of CC and mobility. They also have strong defenses being evasion based with many flat evasion buffs which avoiding damage is really the only way to survive when you go up against players with high (220+) AP. The downside to the Striker will be it’ll likely fall into the same ol’ Musa/Ninja/Kuno/Maewha/Tamer role set for Node Wars meta which the Maewha is usually the Queen of with her high burst damage, mobility and defenses while the bulk of the forces will still be Warriors, Wiz/Witches, Zerks and Sorcs.

Hey thanks for the tips! Useful information for sure.

NP. I just grinded mine up 56 for the Family Fame. I found the combination of doing:

A/D+LMB 3 times one direction for the AP boost first
Spacebar (pulls everything in and knocks em down at 3 stacks)
Shift+G for Ragehammer (down attack, also knocks down, big damage)
Shift+RMB followed by LMB for the big standard combo

Those were my go-tos for grinding 50-56 eventually adding in LMB+RMB for the HP recovery so I could go without potions.
