Shroud of the Avatar plans patch for Thursday, free trial next week

There is a metaphor here somewhere.

We’re nearing the end of another month, and that means, like clockwork, another Shroud of the Avatar patch is almost upon us. Release 43 lands this Thursday, bringing with it updates to the Isle of Storms, the Crypt of the Avatar, the Graff Gem mines, and the Asian-themed city of Celestis, all of which are previewed in the game’s latest newsletter.

Following this week’s update, Portalarium has two events planned: a “special mini-telethon around Lord British’s birthday” on July 6th and a free-trial period that’ll run most of the month of July, beginning on the 3rd.

Stay tuned for later this week; we’ve got an in-depth sit-down discussion with the SOTA leads on the way!

In all seriousness, there has been so much analysis about combat on their forums going back to R10, maybe earlier! There were and are great ideas about combat. They just refuse to listen or even acknowledge us then and now. The skill system is really lackluster too. The skills lack diversity which in-turn creates boring builds. The combat is slow, animations extremely bad, and the engine poorly optimized. It’s a shame really… the world is quite interesting and I found the over-world map to be different and intriguing.

Couldn’t get the last free trial to run at all .

They better make a big portion of the game free like LOTRO if they want to get anywhere. And allow the rest to be unlocked with heavy grinding, again, like LOTRO.

Well, the heavy grinding part, they have down to a science.

Heavy grind… check! Awful combat… check! Empty cities but $10,000 homes and coffee houses…. check!

A month-long free-trial period during Early Access? Not going well, I’d guess. I’m feeling the pain of those who bought into this.

I think the real value of this game could be offline mode. not sure hw it all works but if your houses and stuff could appear in offline mode, then great.

There are more news about SoTA on massively than any other MMO.. I start thinking Richard Garriott became sponsor of massively with the hope to cashgrab some more players.

I heard that with this telethon, Richard Garriott will be auctioning off his toe nail clippings!

I think in the AMA somebody was asking him to sell more of his hair.

Call me when he starts selling body parts that don’t grow back.

It’s really a shame. This game has become a fantasy 2017 version of farmville; potential wasted.
