WRUP: Introducing our cast of characters for 2018 edition

As always, a new year means a new cast of characters, because I hate resolving plotlines and we’re not going to be having a bunch of uppity actors hold this feature hostage like The Simpsons. If you want closure, assume everyone died except that guy you liked. Now, let’s meet our new cast for 2018:

  • Happy Walkin’ Steven Steven, a convicted drug dealer who is currently coaching seven different children’s sports teams to learn the true meaning of friendship, Christmas, teamwork, and IRS form 1040-A.
  • Camilla the Snail, who is a snail.
  • Jacktron, defender of Earth, the heroic robot who repeatedly insists to people that it is a CPA named “Jacktron, defender of Earth,” not an actual defender of Earth in any way. That is not a title.
  • Sandstorm Jones, your father. Or mother. Whichever.
  • Catfood Collectin’ Steven Steven, who is played by a meth addict prone to reckless driving and will be quietly retired after he tries to make an entire episode about how you should eat squirrels right off of the trees. (He calls them “squeaklemons.”)
  • Wolverine But Not The Marvel Comics Wolverine, A Totally Original Character Who We Made Up. This one speaks for itself.
  • And last but not least, Obnoxious Catchphrasia, the objectively worst character and therefore the comedic sociopath everyone will idolize.

So, let’s enjoy this band of whatevers on their adventures until we kill them off next year! Until then, feel free to let us know which character’s merchandise you would like to purchase in the comments of What Are You Playing. Or let us know what you’re playing this weekend. Honestly, whichever.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Pokemon Go to help burn off some of this winter gut, but also because I can do whale watching at the same time (it’s a great trail). I swear I’m doing some Final Fantasy XIV because I’ve just been too tired to play much during the week but no, I’m not working towards that doggy helmet. The dog’s cute but the helmet is just too out there for me.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’m sure it’ll be Guild Wars 2 again. My husband and I picked a set of unloved alts and are slowly taking our 6-year-old through Path of Fire with us (glossing over some of the more intense parts, but honestly GW2 has very little gore, so it’s not too bad). It’s so much fun!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): As usual, FFXIV and World of Warcraft, and… I don’t know. I’m feeling the urge for something else, but I’m not sure what. So I’ll see.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m working diligently on setting up some sort of gold-making scheme in World of Warcraft, which mostly just means sorting out all of my characters and getting organized. I’d like to check back in with Champions Online and get in some Secret World Legends time as well.

Pierre, patron: I’m not over Destiny 2, so it will be my main game this weekend… again. I’m also enjoying Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age on my PS4; it’s an excellent remaster of an interesting series title, especially for MMO players as many MMO-like features are somehow implemented in this installment. For dessert, I chose Divine Divinity, the first RPG from Larian Studio. It’s an old game but surprisingly very pleasant to play, even today. I wish you an amazing year of gaming, MOP readers. So, what are you playing this year?

Your turn!

I’ve been so bad at posting in this topic on Saturday.

I spent my weekend curled up in bed playing my 2DS XL, RPing on Discord, and looking for a new D&D group.

I’ve gotten back into GTA Online in a big way. After finally finishing the Prison Break heist, I haven’t had any trouble finding players for other heists or other activities I want to do. I imagine GTAO will keep me occupied until Monster Hunter World releases.

I’m considering returning to FFXIV. I let my subscription lapse because I happened to be going out of town for a week the day it would have renewed. I was really enjoying the Stormblood storyline and had finally embraced the awesomeness of Red Mage.

So much Ghost Recon Wildlands for me. Tier 1 difficulty is a kick in the nads for real

While battling away a nasty influenza/throat infection combo for like a month now i’ve been slowly grinding up alt jobs in FFXIV. Also tried Destiny 1 again from scratch after uninstalling Destiny 2’s cash shop trashfire and its been like night and day going through the moon and venus and seeing what looks like a straight 50-50 of new players and people returning from D2. Its just been very strange to use weapons that are underpowered to the point of uselessness return to part of your main rotation of builds based on what activities you do again. Last Word oh boy did i miss you.

A little BnS, maybe. I’ve also reinstalled TESO. Not sure if/when I’ll play it, but it’s back on my computer at least. I still have 2200 crowns from the last time I played.

Cool. Let me know if you need anything in BnS. Seems like you are cruising right along. If you tire of leveling let me know and we can group up for some stuff.

I’ll be on a little later this evening.

Well, I sound like a broken record. And I’m getting tired of hearing it myself.

What am I playing? Blade and Soul
Why am I playing it? Because… just because!

But, yes Football is going to be watched. Profanity may be uttered. And I’m fairly certain I will also argue, why The Last Jedi could have been a good stand alone movie but was horrible trilogy film, after a couple shots and a couple of beers.

In the meantime? Here is a little vid I call, “A Collage”. Little snippets of fun I had over the holidays in BnS. There may be a Uta cameo in there. Maybe two. Btw, the little guy with the ski hat? That’s my Summoner. Finally capped and looking for more. :)

Yes, the pink thing in the beginning and middle is in fact me. <3

PS: And I also gone off of Bunyang and Bunah of late, as they tried disingenuously usurp my character’s history. >.<

I’ve hopped back into Path of Exile for the first time in a long while (I am at least a couple expansions behind). So naturally the only choice was to start a new character. I am having fun with it so far, though I think I am fast approaching a point where I will need to improve my gear and the crafting system / trading system in PoE is way above my head at the moment. I did kill a god though.. so there is that.

No current MMO’s at the moment, but I am awfully tempted to return to Lord of the Rings Online. The only thing holding me back is the absurdly high cost of entry for such an old game. Unless you find the expansion packs on sale you can be looking at upwards of $80 to ‘catch up’ with the rest of the player base.

PoE is a game I always come back too. It is great for just that. I tend not to start a new character, although now I’m thinking maybe I should go back and do just that.

I tend to do the same thing in MMO’s that I have taken a hiatus from. Even if it is only temporary and I go to to my main I find that starting new is a good refresher course and lets me pick up on all the new mechanics that were introduced. This effect is less pronounced in MMO’s as opposed to Path of Exile, but it is still fun to try out new classes / builds!

This week: I am not a stable genius. In fact, I am not even a genius…

…I know this because this is what peer review and professional help as told me. And this is why I stay away from anything that requires me to lead. As I’ll know it will likely end up in a disaster cluster “Bleep!”. But the first steps in finding my way in this is to recognize my weaknesses. And not instead, whisk it all magically away by asserting conclusions about myself without evidence in contradiction. Just saying. :(

That said, moar LynStar and GoblinStar this week! <3

Have a great week and weekend folks! :)

I spent a little money on the PSN Christmas sale:

Killzone 3
MGS ground zeroes
I am setsuna
Thief

Already beat Killzone 3 (it was good), ideling through MGS (so much of MGS5 already makes so much more sense), I am Setsuna is good but needed a little bit more time in development (the god damn skill buying system material grinding / how there is no run button), and uninstalled Thief after playing for 30 minutes (easy front runner for one of the most shit bug budget titles I have played).

… Plus I am still inching my way through Horizon Zero Dawn.

I also installed EVE before Christmas & swore at it constantly for about a week before I got comfortable with the controls & batshit UI design (holy shit is that so outdated it was like trying to read classical Scottish poetry).

Spent several days flipping back and forth between EVE and Elite (which I also has shitty controls, just diffrent shitty, that took lots of swearing too much effort to get the hang of) before I logged in to EVE one day and found that someone had strip mined every asteroid belt in the starter zone & then left it all to rot in containers labled “like mining? You should think about joinung a mining consortium!”

Log out, uninstall, fuck off … I just don’t have time in my old age to piss away on petty shit like that.

I get that EVE’s entire design model boils down to “how can this be used to troll people? And how can we make it even more painful when it is!” And that for some people that is a dreamland, but I would rather spend my time trying to be happy.

That also doesn’t mean Elite won out between the two: I really want to like Elite, but there really is flat nothing to do but burn fuel shuffling items between space stations.

Probably doing an obligatory 2 hour run in SWTOR. Spent 2.5 hours looking for a mission location yesterday which the internets finally told me was a crack in the wall, not the regular green “hey this is the mission entrance” indicator… Other than that, dinner with family and friends as we try to stave off the freezing weather I evidently brought back with me from Canada. Stay warm as you can everyone and for those on the other side of the equator, well go to the beach and think of us! Maybe we will feel the warmth of your thoughts.

I’ve already maxed out on the content I want to do for GW2 so waiting patiently there for the next release while doing some meta events. Otherwise, I dipped my toe back into SWTOR for the first time in a few years and I’m finding the KOTET storyline quite engaging for my Jedi Knight. Perhaps I’ll stick there for a while and finally do some operations.
