Blizzard isn’t going to bring back World of Warcraft’s remote auction house any time soon

With just a couple of days to go before Blizzard disables the remote auction house app for World of Warcraft, the studio pretty much has extinguished all hope that users will see it return.

“The web/mobile auction had a lot more issues with keeping it up than it was really worth for the small amount of players that actually used it,” a Blizzard CM said on the forums. “Trying to tackle and fix those issues (for transparency the majority were just exploits) just takes dev time away from working on new content. While it may change in the future, we currently at this time aren’t planning to bring this back.”

The CM said that the auction house itself is in need for some updates but that there are no plans right now for such improvements.

WoW playerbase has been really lazy since Cataclysm, they want everything to be easy and achievable at the snap of their fingers.

Human playerbase has been really lazy since wide release of the smart phone, they want everything to be easy and achievable at the snap of their fingers.

Generally speaking, not sure why more access to data/functionality should automatically equate to “being lazy”, but ok. /shrug

Because it takes away from the game even more. If you can start managing your auctions from your phone while riding the bus, Blizzard might as well make an app where you can make your character go botting in a certain area, use potions when health drops below 30% and use certain skills… A.K.A the way some old Asian MMOs were made with built-in botting function, really sad.

The thing that made WoW cool and engaging was that you had to actually make an effort to do things. In Vanilla you had to socialize to get into dungeons/guilds, you didn’t have a mount for a long time and you had to walk a lot and use flight paths, for the AH it’s self-explanatory – you had to go to a capital city in order to use it/manage it.

Sounds incredibly reasonable so of course people are going to complain regardless.

If you go on the forums you’ll find 100s of people who use the Armory AH every day in a perfectly TOS acceptable way. It’s a way to play WoW when you aren’t in the game. It keeps people even more engaged to the game.

This isn’t a case of complaining just to complain.

Yeah, BUT, Blizzard keeps giving its customers things and then taking it away again (flying, remote AH, etc.), which I don’t think any company should be doing to their customers. In those type of cases, I think its proper to complain.

I’m of the belief that once you offer a service to your customers, you shouldn’t take it away from them again, even if it makes sense financially to do so. You should “eat the cost” and continue the service to the customer (unless its very damaging to do so).

Would be nice if they fixed the AH before they removed the one app that makes it almost functional.

It sucks – I really enjoyed using it. It is too bad they couldn’t update it with the new expac mobile app that is sure to come.
