Wild West Online delays its next patch, but will anyone be around to play it?

A planned June 15th patch for Wild West Online obviously didn’t happen, and now we know why: The developers said that when they took the patch to test, it ended up being too unstable and buggy to release to live. As a result, a month delay was announced as well as the postponement of a planned free trial version.

“It was a team decision to postpone patch for up to one month, and make sure that we hit all goals we want with it,” the devs said. “We’re very small team at the moment, so while we wanted to have more resources to put on it, we’re going with what we have — what is in line with game’s metrics. ”

Wild West Online has struggled to gain an audience after launching far too early with a recently revamped gameplay build. Steam Charts shows that hardly anyone is playing it these days, with a daily average hovering around three dozen gamers or so.

fwiw anytime i logged in recently i could easily find at least a few dozen players doing the town control pvp thing. even during the NA day time.

noting i did also uninstall it as part of a larger drive clean up effort as i just haven’t been feeling it much vs other games i’ve got going on – even if my review of it boils down to not nearly as terrible as people would have you believe.

I feel sorry for that team. But someone dropped the ball with the early release.

IronSalamander8 .

Wow. 12 players on when I post this and 33 as the 24 hour peak. That’s terrible for a single player game, much less an MMO!

I didn’t even know it was released. No wonder the playerbase is small.

..and then there was radio silence for six months while absolutely nothing happened, followed by an announcement of a new patch changing the direction of the game, and then quietly shutting down a week later.

Or they may try and keep it going at absolute minimum cost until the next season of Westworld starts for one last sales spike before pulling the plug.

Red Dead will be released by then and effectively kill this game for good. It doesn’t matter what they do. There is room for exactly One western game on the market at any given time. Red Dead will be the one. It will suck up all oxygen. And yes, it will also have a Battle Royale.

I disagree with your “One western game” philosophy but when the competition includes anything by Rockstar, in the immediate aftermath of said game’s release, you might as well not even bother.
