WRUP: The first shade of Sycamore House edition

There's no relief.

The first shade of Sycamore House made no attempt to evade us. It squatted, spherical and shimmering, directly in the first doorway we came across. It made no movement at us, eyes set wide apart and unblinking like a frog, and when we found a path around its barrier it made no effort to stop us.

Donald was certain that it was guarding us from a specific room, and as we found shortly the room was indeed its only objective. It sat in the doorway and watched when we grew near, then vanished when we moved away. A camera revealed inside of the room appeared to be nothing so much as a collection of bone fragments, which we presumed to be from wildlife; Donald wanted to enter, reasoning the shade could not actually stop us.

We resisted, and Donald acquiesced. But in the middle of the night, his bunkmate Henry woke us with a cry, and we saw that Donald had gone. We rushed to the room to find the shade squatting outside the door, a stain of crimson blotched across its too-wide brow. In the center of the room lay fresh, unbroken bones.

What Are You Playing?

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I won’t get to play much this weekend – guests in town and all that. I did do a major Star Wars Galaxies Legends vendor restock this week before I was consumed by illness and cleaning! You guys, my emu chef made her first Bespin Port this week, and I’m so excited to be back in the high-end food-crafting game. I missed it, but I had forgotten just how much!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Basically just my usual stuff in Final Fantasy XIV and Granblue Fantasy. In a bit of a rut, maybe, but it’s a comfortable one, and it gives me space to branch into other projects when they strike me.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I keep getting persuaded to dip back into old favorites from hearing friends play MMOs, so this weekend I might be back into Star Wars: The Old Republic with a new character. Other than that, it’ll be a mixture of World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, and Lord of the Rings Online!

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): Much surviving is to be had! Purges are working in Conan Exiles, so I need to start making sure my treehouse is protected. That means I need to really get on the ball building! I also need to get some thralls I guess, though I was hoping for the rescue thralls to be in before that; I don’t want to have to bash them over their heads, even if it is for their own good! I also have a goal in Boundless, so I am sure I will be in there trying to get my place established just right. And since Halloween month is here, I will be starting my decent into holiday festivals. EverQuest II’s Nights of the Dead is my first stop!

Patron Josephe aka Ligeance: I’ve played a ton of MMO’s – started with our beloved City of Heroes, then to WoW, then Aion, TERA, SWTOR, Rift, The Elder Scrolls Online, etc. – and in my history with the genre, there have only been three times when I’ve been so infuriated by a game and its missteps that I’ve completely deleted my characters in a rage and uninstalled. Two of those times were with ArcheAge (bots, hacks, and broken promises) and Bless Online (for obvious reasons).

The third was with Neverwinter. It was awful at release for a number of reasons. But I decided to give it another whirl and started playing it again a few weeks ago, and wow, what a difference 5 years makes! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing my Oathbound Paladin through the leveling experience and have started doing some of the early campaigns (Maze Engine, Elemental Evil, Tyranny of Dragons, etc.) at max level on my way to end-game content. It’s been a helluva lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to future modules.

I also log-in for a little Fortnite action when I want a quick adrenaline boost or need to vent my frustrations out on someone with virtual firepower. So that’s mainly WRUP right now. It’s not that exciting, but c’est la vie.

Patron Pierre: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has its grab on me and I’m afraid it’s for a long time. So, World of Warcraft will stay on the backburner for now. I’m playing Kassandra, the female protagonist of ACO and she’s really badass, imo far more charismatic than Alexios, her male counterpart. Game is gorgeous, extremely immersive and the best option for cheap vacations in Greece without the possible inconvenience that can occur during such a trip. But enough of this, I’m sorry, I have Athenian weasels to educate with my sword: malaka! Enjoy your gaming weekend MOP readers.

Your turn!
