Conan Exiles recaps 2018, talks plans for dungeons, The Purge, and thrall AI

The folks at Funcom have released the latest Conan Exiles newsletter — the last of 2018, in fact — and as is the custom at this time of year, it’s dedicated to reflecting on the past months and looking forward to what’s to come in 2019. There’s no denying that it’s been a pretty big year for Funcom’s popular survival sandbox, as the devs are keen to remind us: “Since January 2018, we’ve released around 30 patches and hotfixes for the PC version of Conan Exiles alone, adding everything from simple bug fixes and balance changes, to huge content additions and revamps,” all of which is in addition to “4 paid DLC packs with new armors, weapons, building pieces, placeables, and pet skins.”

And as if that weren’t enough on its own, the newsletter adds that the devs “have several more updates and bug fixes to roll out . . . including 4 more dungeons that [they] still haven’t revealed yet.” That’s still a little ways in the future, though. As for this week, the devs are releasing another patch to the game’s Testlive branch that will include new building optimizations, “vastly improving how fast the game loads in building pieces across the board.” Beyond that, the team says that its “current focus is improving the core aspects of Conan Exiles in the next couple of months,” which includes “improving the Purge, fixing exploits, and improving AI and thralls.”

The newsletter ends on a bittersweet note. As it turns out, this isn’t just the last newsletter of 2018; it’s the last newsletter, period. Going forward, the devs will be shelving the traditional community newsletters and will instead be focusing on communicating with the community through other channels, such as the newly implemented Trello board as well as the forums, Steam, and the Conan Exiles subreddit. Out with the old and in with the new, we suppose.

Don’t miss our own stream of the game’s latest DLC pack!

It’s a good game, but the “updates” haven’t been impressive. This seems like another game Funcom will abandon after getting their cash.

I remember when this activity was for TSW.

We are celebrating that in a year since launch they still haven’t fixed purges or thrall ai but they had time to charge us for 4 dlcs? Heh, ok. But hey we got pets that kinda work. And hey they have 4 dungeons they haven’t revealed yet… just like Blizzard had Diablo 4 in development right after Blizzcon.

Its a shame they are doing away with the weekly newsletter. IMO, that was one of their greatest strengths in providing feedback to the player base. Its something I think all games of its ilk (i.e. MMO’ish) should implement.

They have a bit of fixing to do first, their hotfix patch of a couple of days ago pretty much broke the game for me, now attacks dont work, their is stuttering and if you srpint..boom game crashes….sigh

Be nice if they test this stuff before they throw it out :(

There was a hotfix deployed this morning (or yesterday depending on where you are) that fixed the stuttering and fps drops I’ve been getting since the bow/katana update.

Not sure about attacks not working. I haven’t run into that issue even with my laundry list of mods.

Indeed, sadly it had the reverse effect for me as noted and has broken the game. Annoying really as pre hotfix I had zero stuttering and the game never crashed..ever lol.

That stinks. Hope the next patch fixes it for you.

I know how frustrating it is, because it was driving me nuts pre-hotfix, and my friend wouldn’t even touch the game at all until it was fixed–and it wasn’t even quite as bad as what your describing (I never crashed, but my friend would during the more severe fps drops/freezes).
