For some reason, all of our awards this year have covered MMOs. There’s so much other stuff to cover! We know, because whenever we run a story about something being bad everyone is quick to tell us that there are worse things somewhere in the world and that’s far more important. So this year, we’ve got some extra awards that are most definitely not bloopers, because as you can see, we have the real header, not the blooper header. So there.
Best quadrilateral of 2018: Trapezoid
Everyone acts like the rhombus is so great, but trapezoids are due for a comeback.
Best sound to make when seeing something scary in 2018: “Scuh!”
See, you’re not saying you’re scared, but you’re implying you might be. That’s advanced, right there.
Best cat I own of 2018: Tali
She is the good cat.
Best jar of jelly you forgot you had in the fridge and keep meaning to throw out but then feel bad about because doesn’t it last forever and you don’t want to waste food so you just shove it toward the back and buy another jar for 2018: Smuckers Grape Preserves
Best heft, most pleasing color.
Best What Are You Playing of 2018: ???
Heck, I don’t know, you guys figure it out.
Bonus question: What’s your favorite television series (new or old) that you watched in 2018?
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Playing tour guide with my friend from Singapore who I met in Japan and was my first Pokemon Go partner, so yeah, PoGo will happen (and maybe Mario Kart for the Switch).
Favorite show this year has maybe been Goblin Slayer. The main character has a lot in common with my Asheron’s Call character, except I roleplayed that character as someone who sympathized with goblins and disliked people since the former were slaves and the latter were viewed as needlessly cruel. Also Recover of An MMO Junkie was pretty good, at least as a relatable anime for MMO fans.
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): We are working our way through new-to-us Switch games! So far it’s been a whole lot of Just Dance, but we got Breath of the Wild too, so that’s on my agenda, if I can manage to boot the kids off long enough for that! I also rebought Stardew Valley on the Switch because that game is just so worth buying again to play on the sofa.
Best TV show I watched this year would be Westworld season 2.
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): It’s hard for me to pin down what I’m looking to play this weekend, honestly, as the game of “find a regular job” is dominating pretty much all of my brain space. I might be taking a moment to do a bit of Dauntless for a spell, and it’s been a while since I’d peered into Destiny 2. Mostly, though, it’ll be chewing on the desk in anxiety over whether someone will employ me or not.
I’m not usually a TV person, but there were a couple of things that hooked my interest this year. The one that springs to mind is the brilliant animated series Aggretsuko, but that’s kind of it. I’m bad at TV watching and even worse a binging, honestly.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): I’m still working on buoying all of my various characters in Final Fantasy XIV ahead of Shadowbringers, which means a bunch of leveling and farming. I also got some new games for Christmas, so that’ll be another thing to take most of my time. (Including the Kirby game for the Switch; I love Kirby.)
I actually watched a lot of shows this year, but the single best one was probably The Good Place. Then again, this was also the year I powered through all of Voltron: Legendary Defender, Brooklyn 99, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and a good chunk of Black Mirror, so my cup runneth over with good stuff to watch this year.
Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m trying my best to push hard through Angmar – one of my least-favorite zones – in Lord of the Rings Online before my sanity slips away. However, I think that a new character in The Elder Scrolls Online will give me some enthusiasm in gaming as I turn the corner into the new year.
As for favorite TV show, the only one that I watched very regularly was Bob’s Burgers. Just love that family and the humor and the burgers of the day.
Your turn!
