Shroud of the Avatar offers free respecs, answers community queries

While Shroud of the Avatar isn’t the most hardcore of MMOs out there, it certainly is a challenging beast to wrangle without the full array of user friendliness that players might be accustomed to seeing. Quick and cheap respecs aren’t always available, which is why it’s notable that Portalarium is handing out free character respecs to anyone who logs in during the month of January. This respec alternatively can be used to reset adventuring and crafting experience as well.

Next up on the calendar for SOTA is Release 62 on January 31st. This update is primarily focused on “improving frame rate and reducing hitching” as well as making dragons procreate. Yes, baby dragons are on the way.

In other news, the dev team has spent this first week or so of January answering hours’ worth of community questions on livestreams. Check them out after the break!

This game is so gimped that it just feels like all they do is futile and they keep hitting the wall, but never progressing any further.

+10 style points to World of Warcraft for changing to allow full respecs at little or no cost.

-10,000 style points to any MMO that has complex skill systems that can seriously hinder your character yet are not changeable or cost massive amounts of in-game currency, or worse yet real $$$.

Handing out a one time respec just seems to me like a loss leader to encourage folks to try something new, then charge them through the nose to correct their mistakes or go back to where they were. Lame.

I suspect it’s also an attempt to lure back the many people who have already left. It’s certainly not going to bring new players.

Perfect example of old school gaming gone wrong. I play SotA, to say it is not user friendly is an understatement. I can remember putting a point wrong in Diablo 2 and trashing my whole character and starting over. I would never do this now. I would just go play another game. And that’s why free or nearly so respects are in most games, to keep players playing.

The devs just keep pretending that nothing is wrong, everything is fine and going according to plan. Meanwhile the CEO (actually no longer the CEO) has assumed the form of a micromanaging robot, and more than 50k buyers of the game have translated into mere hundreds playing.

…it certainly is a challenging beast to wrangle without the full array of user friendliness that players might be accustomed to seeing.

Just say the game isn’t user friendly…we all know what you mean.

and more than 50k buyers of the game have translated into mere hundreds playing.

Considering their draconian business model, i’m willing to bet they’re ok with that.

He’s actually been doing the robot thing since 2014, but otherwise that all sounds pretty accurate. But I’ve gotta say that the last couple of times I’ve played, the interface and quests have come a long way and the experience was enjoyable. I only hop on about once a month for a couple hours. Too many games, too little time.

Love scifi so ofc i’ve watched all star trek and for the longest time assumed i’d seen all the originals? Far from it i found out.

I’ve been picking away at the originals over the years, on season 3 episode 7 next time i watch and so far I’ve only previously seen 2 episodes, Mudd’s Women and Trouble with Tribbles the rest are all brand new episodes to me and enjoying them very much, can’t binge them though, but they certainly stood the test of time.

Already used my free respect on the bow skill set(you can use it on a sub skill category too instead full tree) and it netted me some extra exp pool. I mostly play as tanky paladin(heavy armor, sword, shield, tactics, earth, light, sun) there and I craft a lot too – my crafting level is almost equal to my adventuring level. Only my cooking is a bit behind. Generally it is one of the games that has me excited for the future BUT they need to add mounts soonish!

Who in the hell gave authorization for free respecs? Is the Robot on the frizt again?

More importantly – where the hell is schlag with obligatory Robot Garriot pictures?

I’m just taking the piss. Really a bat signal for schlag I was hoping. To no avail! It isn’t fair when meme generators take personal time!

You could make a robocop animated gif or static image and have on it “I am the law! Who decided to give a freebie?” :p

Me? I have not one molecule of creative talent. Alas! I must rely on those more gifted than I to entertain me!
