Ascent: Infinite Realm introduces the flying city Inventus, shows off new combat footage

Information continues to slowly trickle out of Bluehole Studios as it toils away on its upcoming sci-fantasy MMO Ascent: Infinite Realm, and the latest tidbit is a teaser that introduces players to the massive airship Inventus. It’s more of a lore post than anything else, so there aren’t really any gameplay details to glean here, but it does suggest that players will likely use the massive flying city as a base of operations as they explore the world of AIR:

This month we are giving you a little bit of info about the Inventus, a giant airship which you will become fairly familiar with as you traverse the environments of Ascent: Infinite Realm.

The Inventus is a giant airship that serves as a city in the sky. During the invasion by the Black Heralds, the people of Nousgard realized that they would need to evacuate their beloved home before they fell to the mechanical monsters.

By utilizing the technologies learned by their ancestors past, the Nous people constructed the Inventus.

Despite the Inventus being first and foremost an evacuation ship, there is more than meets the eye. The main quest will reveal blue skies and open vast areas as you discover new lands.

The Inventus was created to provide a sense of awe and progression. We hope you enjoy flying freely in the open skies on the Inventus airship.

But if you’re hungry for something a bit meatier, don’t fret; YouTuber Ser Medieval has also uploaded a new video with a few minutes’ worth of combat footage taken from the game’s SEA version that’s currently in testing. Each of the game’s five classes gets some time in the spotlight, from the tanky, hammer-wielding Warlord to the quick-drawing, lead-blasting Gunslinger, and the video also shows off some of the fearsome foes that players will have to wipe from the face of the planet in the pursuit of experience and loot. If you want to see the game in action for yourself, you can check out the whole video just below.

Combat looks nice, kind of like TERA

Not close. TERA is action combat, this is tab target.

This looks like what BDO or B&S might have looked like in 2011. It sounds bad too.

Nothing to be excited about until they can show it can actually run decently because; Its still BHS, which means its still UE3, which means its going to run like hot garbage.

It also still looks tab target. Makes no sense, the only redeeming quality of the other MMO they did was its combat. Now we are gonna get all the hot garbage of TERA (poor performance, recycled content, massive P2W, terrible servers) without the actual decent combat system that was the only thing that has kept the game going.

I know intimately how BHS doesn’t give a flying fuck about their customers. I honestly feel bad for people looking forward to this game. Prepare for Bless 2.0

Definitely giving me a BDO vibe in terms of its combat, which isn’t a bad thing by any means. And the Gunslinger looks just about as badass as I was hoping it would.

Consider me a happy bunny.

Now that I’ve lost a lot of the excitement that I originally had for Ashes of Creation, this is the remaining MMO that I’m really looking forward to.

Gunslinger in a Steampunk MMO? Hell yeah! I need to head over and read that lore post. A:IR is about one of the last MMOs on my radar.

It looks like they’ve redone combat to be faster-paced and they’ve reworked the classes so they’re not locked into one gender only. It’s nice to see them making these changes. I can allow myself to start getting a little excited!
