Following a cryptic tease last week, Blizzard has officially unveiled the newest member of the Overwatch roster, Baptiste, by way of an origin story cinematic last night. Baptiste, like many others, was orphaned by the devastation of the Omnic Wars. He had no choice but to do whatever was necessary to survive — no choice but to join up with the villainous terrorist organization Talon.
Or at least, that was the lie he told himself to justify his self-serving pursuits. “The truth is, I had choices,” he says, “and I made them.” But now, he’s defected from Talon, seeking atonement for the crimes he committed under its banner: “I am going to fight for a better world. For some, that means a bandage; for others, a bullet. Today, I give you the choice.” It would seem that Baptiste is the epitome of combat medic, capable of causing pain or healing it in equal measure, though we’ll have to wait a little longer to see exactly what his kit looks like.
There’s no word on when we can expect to see Baptiste in action except for Blizzard’s signature “soon,” but it probably wouldn’t be a long shot to be looking for him on the PTS in the nearish future.
