Dungeons and Dragons Online names its fourth expansion: Masterminds of Sharn

9

For a game that’s been out for 13 years, DDO has only gotten into the expansion race relatively recently. In fact, this spring’s expansion pack will be merely the fourth that has ever come to the MMO.

And now that expansion has a name: Masterminds of Sharn. This expansion will take players to the titular city where adventures are found on multiple levels. Not RPG levels, levels as in “stories high” of skyscrapers.

Standing Stone Games is now advertising “upgrade bonus options” for the expansion that includes the Inquisitive enhancement tree, the iconic Scoundrel hero, and Sharn-themed cosmetics. Pre-orders for Masterminds of Sharn will commence next month and allow for instant access to the devilish Tiefling race.

Have they looked up what the word “sharn” actually means?

Me and my GF just started playing DDO and fell in love with it right away. Looks like we picked a good time to get into it. Really excited about this. DDO is so amazing despite its age.

I remember playing the beta and enjoying it and it was always something I thought I would get back to at some point but never did because other games took precedent .

I have such a soft spot in my heart for DDO. Despite its age and architectural flaws the theorycraft and moment-to-moment gameplay are still up there with the class of the genre. And the SSG team works minor miracles with the quality of the quests they still put out on an archaic engine; if I had a bottomless pit o’ money I’d give them a blank check to build a new title leveraging the best of modern kit and monetization best practices. 2-3 times a year DDO gets a resub from me and I always enjoy my time with it.

Yeah, I seem to find myself returning to this one every year or two. I’ll probably pick up a not-too-onerously-priced version of the expension when it comes out.

Yep. Loads of content to play.
Decent enough gameplay… bugs that are easy to overlook, really.

There are plenty of other games that have been around as long that cannot offer half of what they do.

It’s fun!
