Burnout Paradise’s online mode downshifts into the sunset

Wait, there was a Burnout Paradise? And it’s shutting down?

Don’t feel silly if this title escaped your notice, because it probably did a lot of folks. But yes, the long-running car-smashing franchise (which dates back to 2001) did come out with an online multiplayer version in 2008. And it’s this Burnout Paradise, which is on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, that will be riding off into the eternal horizon later this summer on August 1st.

It’s not all bad news, as both offline play and the newer Remastered version will both continue to be available.

Burnout Paradise fans, after over 11.5 years of service, the servers for the original 2008 game will be closing on August 1st 2019,” EA posted on Facebook. “That affects Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions. Offline play will still be available of course, and Burnout Paradise Remastered servers are unaffected. Thanks to the lingering hardcore few for staying with us. You’ve got 106 days (or so) to finish all those barrel-roll challenges!”
