It made sense when we heard the rumor that Disney was interested in acquiring Nexon; the South Korean company has a large number of successful titles in operation, and the Walt Disney Company has steadily ensured that it controls every form of entertainment that people consume and enjoy from birth until our twilight years. But it turns out that the rumor was never anything more than a rumor, as Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo has stated that Disney does not have any interest in acquiring the company.
The paper’s report specifies that a pitch was made to Disney in the hopes of enticing the entertainment giant to purchase the company, but there was no interest in making the purchase and there will be no deal. This hardly means there’s no interest in purchasing Nexon, of course; it just means that the acquisition will not involve mouse ears and notations of who is now a Disney princess. The current actual firms in the running include an unnamed firm along with Kakao, Bain Capital, Tencent, and Netmarble.
