The Stream Team: Diving into Dead by Daylight

6

One of the games listed in the unique section of our survival sandbox guides is Dead by Daylight. However, this horror game isn’t quite survival like the others. In this you have a group of five players where one is the killer and the other four are trying to not be slaughtered. It’s free to check out for the holiday weekend, so Massively OP’s MJ is going to give it a go. Tune in live at 8:00 p.m. to see whether she can live through the experience or if Death Counter will feast mightily.

What: Dead by Daylight

How a game has remained popular for all these years on just ONE game mode alone is a mystery.

I own this and watched people play it but only played once. It was a rough experience and the only good thing I did was rescuing several other survivors. We still lost though.

Yeah it’s tough til you’ve really learned the ins/outs and get some decent perks. Which does require a good bit of time/effort. Double /1.5x bloodpoint events and other holiday esque events can help speed it along but they seem to only do those maybe once every other month or two.

For future reference there is a tutorial in the game that gives a good enough overview of what you’re supposed to be doing as a Survivor/Killer and the various tools you can use to evade Killers and so on. It also gives you a good chunk of Bloodpoints if you do both tutorials, giving you a decent amount of progress (maybe a few early levels worth or so) into leveling a character.

Just jumping in like that can definitely be confusing/daunting.

Shame I can’t (couldn’t?) watch it live. DBD is good fun, but it does have a pretty bad entry curve just because of how the perks and leveling up Survivors/Killers works.
