Bonus question: What’s the most persistent hardware issue you’ve ever had with a computer?
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): I’ll at least passively play Pokemon Go, and maybe actively play Harry Potter Wizards Unite, but it’s a busy weekend between a social outing and setting up for Anime Expo in Los Angeles.
Most persistent hardware issue was having Windows Vista, hands down.
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’m predictable: Star Wars Galaxies Legends and City of Heroes, though admittedly my weekend is already packed so I might not get much playtime in either. I’ve gone back to way more casual play in both for the summer now, but man I had so much fun playing CoH for our stream this past week that my brain has been low-key considering rolling more toons. I will say that the toon I played with the team was basically a remake of my old Storm/Dark Defender and now I remember why I loved it so much: all the fun and chaos of a Storm/ primary on a ‘fender without the responsibility of a /Storm secondary on my Controller. Also Freezing Rain plus tentacles just feels so damn powerful.
Bonus question: Does never being able to find a high-quality gaming mouse for tiny hands count? Humans will have eyeball pointer chips for their PCs before somebody makes a good mouse for me.
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I’d like to say I’ll be doing some more roleplaying and alting in Final Fantasy XIV, but I might also be lying. That will certainly feature, but Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has released and is absolutely sinking its hooks in to me in the best way possible. Like in the “I need to 100% complete this game” kind of way.
Crashing to desk. My computer recently has decided that a watchdog violation BSOD is The New Hotness to get my stress levels up and make me stare angrily at my bank account for not having more money within it to so I can get some new hardware. The reasons for an upgrade keep on piling up; on top of wanting to stream again but not tax this poor potato, I now have this to worry about. Good times.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): My last remaining task pre-expansion in FFXIV is to just sort out inventories. It is not fun, but it does need to be done. Aside from that I’m enjoying the heck out of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night after having assumed that it was going to turn into another case of Mighty No. 9 and also generally installing and running games at higher settings now with my new rig. Fun!
It thankfully hasn’t been an issue for many years now, but for a long time I had a persistent issue of hard drives burning out for reasons I couldn’t ascertain. Thankfully, my most recent computer did not have that issue; the hard drive was full, but it was working just fine.
Samon Kashani (@thesamkash): Not a lot of gaming this weekend. I’m still on my last “day” of getting my Guild Wars 2 skyscale, so I’ll need to get on that. Everything up to now was good, but getting the saddle is a pure grind and I am hating it.
Bonus : My gaming rig has been pretty solid but the laptop I used to have had this terrible overheating issue. I literally used a penny as an added heat sink on the integrated GPU! I had big laptop fan for it to sit on, cray.
Tyler Edwards: D&D on Sunday and more City of Heroes. Following our stream, I rolled a villain alt (psionic/regeneration brute) to investigate the game in more depth. I’m not sure it’s something I’m going to keep playing in the long term, but I see the appeal. Considering its age, it does hold up very well.
Bonus question: My previous computer before the current beast ran very well, except it had an issue with its heat sink that caused it to overheat while gaming. However, I found the most redneck solution possible. It had vents on both the top and bottom of the case, so I just laid it on its side and aimed a fan at it. Worked like a charm.
Pierre, patron: I am still playing The Division 2 quite casually, enjoying the exploration and fights in this game. But I have been helplessly attracted by the long and challenging campaign accompanying They Are Billions out of its long early access debut. So I will probably spend most of my weekend trying to defend my village and survive the zombie apocalypse with my fellow survivors.
On the MMO front, I must say that Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers seems very tasty too and I have hesitated a lot, feeling the urge to play. But I don’t think I’ll have enough free time in the forthcoming weeks to enjoy it like I’d want. So no FFXIV for the moment; maybe later in the summer, I’ll let you know here. And you MOP readers, what temptations will you give in to this weekend?
