The plans to reset a server for Wurm Online have come to fruition. The Elevation map has been revamped and reset, granting everyone a new look at a familiar location. A forum post from this past weekend and a new presser today offer a few more pieces of information bout this map and server reset – namely, that there’s a fog of war slathered all over the map, so everyone is literally going in blind. Certain areas of the map may be revealed over time, but for now, you’re just going to have to become your own cartographer.
Patch notes for the latest update also detail the option to have lockable bulk containers with permissions refuse items of a certain quality level, and the addition of tile transmutation on all PvP servers with a couple of restrictions that players will perhaps want to bear in mind.
“This revamp is the result of developers working extensively with players identifying key issues PvP content faces including a full reset of the main Epic PvP server, elevation. It is aimed at being a proving ground for an already planned major overhaul to PvP in Wurm entirely towards the end of the year and includes many mechanics aimed at allowing new players to effectively compete with long established players. Epic has been around for nearly seven years, meaning brand new players have a lot to catch up on, the aim of this is to help bridge that gap by removing a lot of the bloat to PvP requirements. With this update comes various changes including the addition of a soft cap to fighting characteristics and skills, as well as removal of damage reduction stacking and high end meditation abilities that require months of work to achieve and of course, the big change being a brand new 64 km 2 map to explore, claim and dominate.”
Finally, new JNLP updates and executable files for Windows and Linux have necessitated an update to the Wurm Online launcher. This new launcher will be much more automatic than the current one, namely because it will ensure the latest version of Java is installed instead of forcing you to update it manually. The new Wurm launcher is due to be available this Thursday, July 11th.
